Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for an Emergency Department position requiring a WA or compact license and at least 1 year of large trauma center experience.

Details

  • Work in a busy Emergency Department within an acute care hospital setting
  • 56-bed ER/Trauma Center with additional hall beds bringing capacity to 60-70s
  • Includes a 6-bed Fast Track area and a separate 5-bed Triage area
  • 18 beds within the ED designated for holding inpatients awaiting bed placement
  • ER RNs manage their own holds, though inpatient RNs may float to assist with holds
  • Separate locked hallway with 6 private psych/seclusion treatment rooms
  • In-house security available
  • Approximately 170-200 patients per day
  • Patient ratios of 1:3, or 1:4 for lower acuity patients
  • Common diagnoses include cardiac, stroke, sepsis, DKA, AMS, respiratory, abdominal pain, and mental health cases
  • Support staff includes ED physicians, mid-levels, charge nurses, house supervisors, ED techs, and CNAs for 1:1 sitters
  • ED Techs perform EKGs; Respiratory Therapists manage vents, CPAP, BiPap and complete ABGs
  • Telemetry monitoring available with monitor techs; RNs read strips
  • Radiology located adjacent to the ED with transport assistance available
  • Nurse or ED Tech performs draws, with lab assistance for difficult draws
  • Uses Epic EMR
  • 12-hour shifts, Day/Evening rotation (11a-11p)
  • 36 guaranteed hours per week
  • Every other weekend work requirement
  • No floating requirements
  • No call or standby requirements, though extra shifts may be available

Requirements

  • Active WA or Compact RN license required, pending licenses not accepted
  • Minimum 2 years of RN experience required, with at least 1 year in a larger trauma center setting
  • Required certifications: ACLS, BLS, TNCC, and PALS or ENPC
  • NIHSS certification also required
  • BSN not required for this position
  • Epic EMR experience preferred
  • 2 professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months worked and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years worked, including employment dates and rehire eligibility
  • Copy of driver's license required for consideration

Additional Information

  • Provide emergency care across a wide range of high-acuity and lower-acuity patient presentations
  • Unit orientation includes 1 day of compliance training (8-10 hours) followed by a 12-hour department orientation
  • Must work holidays in November/December, with consideration given to excuse 1 of 3 holidays if it does not conflict with unit needs
  • Professional-colored scrubs permitted, no specific dress code color required
  • No RTO accommodated during the first full week of the assignment
  • First-time travelers are welcome to apply
  • Candidates may not have been directly employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) by any CommonSpirit-affiliated facility, including CHI and Dignity, within the past year; PRN employment through outside staffing firms is acceptable
  • Manager will conduct a phone interview as part of the profile review process
