Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for an Emergency Department position requiring WA or compact RN licensure and 1 year of ER experience.

Details

• Acute care setting in a Level 3 trauma Emergency Department that is a comprehensive Stroke Center and STEMI receiving facility
• 17 beds, able to flex to 22 with hallway beds when adequately staffed
• Fast track available for lower acuity patients through the triage lobby
• Separate triage area, travelers may triage if experienced
• ED holds are intermixed with the department; ED nurse serves as primary nurse
• 4 designated psych/seclusion rooms with heavy behavioral health population
• 24/7 in-house security
• Average of 66 patients treated per day with a 1:4 nurse-to-patient ratio
• Common diagnoses include stroke, STEMI, sepsis, chest pain, and psychiatric/behavioral health cases
• Rare pediatric cases (treat and transfer)
• Common drips include insulin, cardiac, sedation, and other critical care drips
• EPIC EMR used
• Philips telemetry monitors, RNs responsible for reading their own strips
• RNs perform their own lab draws with phlebotomy assistance available when busy
• X-ray and CT located within the ED with staff handling all transport
• 12-hour night shifts, 7p-7:30a
• Every other weekend requirement
• Expected to work some holidays
• No call or standby requirement
• No floating required

Requirements

• Active WA state or Compact RN license required
• Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS, PALS
• Minimum 1 year of ED experience required
• BSN not required
• Behavioral health experience required
• Charge nurse experience preferred
• Driver's license required at time of consideration

Additional Information

• Serve as primary ED nurse managing intermixed ED holds
• Perform breathing treatments and troubleshoot respiratory equipment, with RT managing intubation, CPAP, BiPap, and vent management
• Draw own labs with phlebotomy support available during high volume
• Travelers may be asked to serve in a charge nurse role, particularly on night shifts
• ED techs support with EKGs, blood glucose checks, monitor placement, 1:1 sitting, secretarial duties, and ADLs
• Unit orientation consists of one 12-hour shift paired with an experienced ED RN
• Scrub color required: Royal Blue
• Team environment emphasizes accountability, respect, and collaboration among all staff levels
• Manager has traveler experience and supports travelers as part of the core team
• Many travelers extend their assignments due to positive team culture
• First-time travelers may be considered, with preference given to those with prior travel assignment experience
