Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for an Emergency Department position requiring an active MI license and at least 2 years of ED experience.

Details

• Level IV trauma center emergency department with 14 beds and 2 trauma bays
• No stroke or STEMI receiving capability; those patients are transferred to other facilities
• Fast Track area available with 3 designated rooms
• Separate triage area with 2 rooms; travelers may triage after review of facility policies and procedures
• ER holds managed within the department, with overflow utilizing attached ACU rooms
• Treats an average of 40-60 patients per day
• Patient population includes trauma, STEMI, stroke, hunting injuries, MVAs, and farming-related injuries
• Nurse to patient ratio of 1:3-4 during the day, increasing at night; only 2 RNs on duty between 3a-7a
• ED Physician in-house 24/7, along with mid-level providers
• Respiratory Therapy in-house 24/7 for ABGs, breathing treatments, and EKGs as needed
• Central monitoring station used for telemetry; no dedicated monitor techs
• 24/7 on-site phlebotomy for lab draws
• X-ray located down the hall and CT located a short distance away, both available 24/7
• 12-hour Day and Evening shifts with start times of 7a, 10a, 12p, 3p, and 7p
• Every other weekend (Saturday and Sunday) required
• Holiday coverage required, typically every other holiday during the contract, with additional coverage needed during winter holidays
• Floating to inpatient units required to assist as needed
• Uses a computerized charting system currently transitioning to Epic

Requirements

• Active RN license in Michigan (MI) required, must be in hand
• Minimum 2 years of Emergency Department experience required
• Required certifications: ACLS (AHA), BLS (AHA), PALS (AHA), TNCC
• BSN not required for this position

Additional Information

• Provide emergency nursing care across a variety of trauma and acute presentations, including STEMI, stroke, and traumatic injuries requiring transfer coordination
• Charge nurse typically takes a patient assignment during scheduled shifts
• Support staff includes CNAs, medics, and LPNs who float to assist as needed rather than working in dedicated teams
• No 24/7 in-house security; facility relies on local PD and internal code response for security needs
• On-call is strictly voluntary with no pay for going home early if census allows
• Unit-specific orientation includes computer-based training plus 2 days of floor orientation covering policies and department-specific procedures
• Dress code allows any solid color scrubs, maintained in a clean and professional manner
• All clinicians are required to clock in and out at the facility
• First-time travelers and duo travelers are welcome to apply
• Candidates residing within 80 miles of the facility are considered local
• Clinicians with prior permanent employment at this facility must have an end date at least 6 months prior to their start date
