  • Schedule: Three 12-hour night shifts per week, 7:00 p.m.–7:00 a.m., approximately 36 hours per week
  • Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
  • Patient Ratios: Approximately 1:6 on days, nights, and weekends
  • Patient Population: Adolescents, adults, and geriatric patients
  • Electronic Medical Record: Epic experience preferred
  • Call: Not required
  • First-Time Travelers: Welcome

Emergency Department RN Job Requirements

  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) license; Connecticut RN licensure or an eligible pending license is accepted
  • At least 2 years of recent Emergency Department or Emergency Room RN experience preferred; candidates with 1.5 years may be considered with Level I Trauma Center or travel RN experience
  • Required Level I Trauma Center experience
  • Current BLS, ACLS, and TNCC certifications; TNS may be accepted in place of TNCC
  • Ability to care for patients with complex medical, surgical, neurological, psychiatric, and traumatic conditions
  • Experience with emergency medications, dysrhythmia management, ventilated patients, central lines, chest tubes, IV vasopressors, blood products, and emergency procedures
  • Strong patient assessment, prioritization, communication, and interdisciplinary collaboration skills
  • Willingness to cross-train and float within scope to other emergency care areas as needed
  • Completion of required clinical modules and applicable occupational health requirements

Emergency Department Travel RN Responsibilities

  • Provide safe, timely, and compassionate nursing care to patients presenting with emergent and life-threatening conditions
  • Perform comprehensive nursing assessments, initiate interventions, and continuously evaluate patient responses
  • Care for patients experiencing trauma, stroke, STEMI, overdose, respiratory failure, dysrhythmias, spinal cord injury, traumatic brain injury, and other acute conditions
  • Manage IV medications, vasopressors, sedation, paralytics, blood products, ventilated patients, central lines, chest tubes, and isolation precautions
  • Recognize changes in patient condition and promptly escalate concerns to providers and the interdisciplinary healthcare team
  • Collaborate with respiratory therapy, radiology, pharmacy, social services, interpretation services, transportation, and emergency department technicians
  • Support care for patients with psychiatric holds, suicidal ideation, acute psychosis, and behavioral health needs within assigned areas
  • Document patient assessments, interventions, and outcomes accurately in Epic
  • Float or cross-train to designated emergency care areas and observation services while practicing within scope
  • Participate in every-other-weekend coverage and maintain reliable attendance throughout the travel nursing contract
