Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Level 1 trauma Emergency Department position requiring ACLS, PALS, and TNCC certifications.

Details

  • Level 1 trauma Emergency Department in an acute care hospital setting with 65 private beds, including 2 trauma bays
  • Nurse to patient ratios of 1:3-5 based on acuity and departmental needs
  • Cares for a wide variety of patients from newborns to the elderly, including critically ill patients, cardiac arrest, strokes, and heart attacks
  • Travelers may care for Level 1/2 trauma patients once stabilized and transferred to a pod, but will not serve as primary nurse in the trauma bay
  • Requires proficiency in titrating vasopressor and cardiac drips along with antihypertensive medications
  • Supported by ED techs at a 1:9 ratio, respiratory therapists for ventilator/CPAP/BiPAP/high-flow equipment, and a monitor tech using Phillips telemetry monitors
  • Nurses are expected to independently interpret and act on cardiac rhythms
  • Radiology staff or transport handle patient transport for X-ray or CT
  • Nurses and techs draw labs, with phlebotomy assisting for boarders
  • Evening shift 3p-3a, 12-hour shifts, non-rotating
  • Every other weekend required, with Fri/Sat or Sat/Sun coverage depending on shift
  • Minimal floating, limited to rare 'help all' support roles on other units
  • No on-call or standby requirements
  • Uses EPIC EMR

Requirements

  • Active IL RN license required
  • Current BLS and ACLS certification required
  • ENPC or PALS certification required
  • TNCC or TNS certification required
  • Minimum 2 years of ED nursing experience preferred
  • At least 1 prior travel assignment preferred
  • SANE RN experience preferred
  • Experience at a teaching hospital with residents preferred
  • EPIC EMR experience preferred

Additional Information

  • Care for a broad range of ED patients including critical, trauma, and general acuity cases
  • Work alongside 2 charge nurses and a 24/7 house supervisor who support but rarely take direct patient assignments
  • Minimum of 3 attending physicians staffed at all times, with additional mid-level coverage varying by shift
  • Will be oriented to departmental equipment including Phillips telemetry monitors
  • Holiday coverage required on a rotating or as-needed basis, negotiable based on contract
  • No specific scrub color required, but tasteful scrubs with solid colored undershirts expected
  • Local candidates accepted within 50 miles of the facility at a reduced local rate
  • Requested time off must be submitted for review and approval based on scheduling needs
  • First-time travelers may be considered given required certifications and experience
