This acute care, Level I trauma setting provides emergency nursing care for patients across the lifespan, from newborns to older adults, with a wide range of conditions including strokes, cardiac events, trauma, critical illness, and cardiac arrest. The department features 65 private beds, two trauma bays, supportive clinical resources, and an experienced emergency medicine provider team.

Travel Nursing Job Details

  • Shift Duration: 12 hours
  • Shift: Evening shifts, 3:00 p.m.–3:00 a.m.
  • Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend, based on rotation
  • Call Requirement: None
  • Charting System: EPIC
  • Patient Ratios: Approximately 1:3–5, based on acuity and department needs

Emergency Room RN Job Requirements

  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in Illinois, or confirmation that the licensure application process has been initiated
  • At least 1 year of emergency nursing or Emergency Department RN experience required; 2 years of nursing experience preferred
  • Previous travel nursing experience preferred
  • Current BLS and ACLS certifications
  • Current PALS or ENPC certification
  • Current TNCC or TNS certification
  • Strong patient assessment, triage, prioritization, and emergency response skills
  • Ability to recognize and respond to life-threatening cardiac rhythms
  • Proficiency with titrating vasoactive, cardiac, antihypertensive, and other critical-care infusions
  • Comfort caring for patients across the lifespan and managing a broad range of emergency diagnoses
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, collaborative Level I trauma environment

Emergency Nursing Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive emergency nursing care to patients ranging from newborns to older adults
  • Perform rapid patient assessments, triage patients, identify changes in condition, and initiate timely interventions
  • Care for patients with minor injuries, acute illness, strokes, myocardial infarctions, cardiac arrest, trauma, and other critical conditions
  • Monitor patients and interpret cardiac rhythms, escalating life-threatening findings appropriately
  • Administer and titrate a wide variety of medications and critical-care infusions according to clinical protocols
  • Obtain laboratory specimens and support diagnostic evaluation and treatment planning
  • Collaborate with emergency physicians, advanced practice providers, respiratory therapists, radiology staff, technicians, and trauma teams
  • Support the care of stabilized trauma patients following transfer from the trauma bay
  • Manage respiratory support equipment, including ventilators, CPAP, BiPAP, and high-flow oxygen, in collaboration with respiratory therapy
  • Accurately document assessments, interventions, and patient outcomes in EPIC
  • Promote patient safety, compassionate communication, and high-quality emergency care
