Responsibilities
- Receive, accession, and prepare tissue specimens for histological examination
- Perform tissue fixation, processing, embedding, microtomy, and slide preparation
- Prepare and stain tissue sections using routine H&E and special staining techniques
- Ensure high-quality slide preparation for pathologist review
- Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot histology laboratory equipment
- Perform quality control procedures and maintain laboratory documentation
- Label, organize, and store specimens according to laboratory protocols
- Follow infection prevention, laboratory safety, and regulatory compliance standards
- Maintain inventory of histology supplies and notify leadership of replenishment needs
- Collaborate with pathologists, laboratory scientists, and healthcare professionals to ensure timely and accurate diagnostic results
Requirements
- Associate degree in Histology, Medical Laboratory Technology, or a related laboratory science field preferred
- HT (ASCP) or HTL (ASCP) certification preferred or eligible
- Minimum 1 year of recent Histology Technician experience
- Strong knowledge of tissue processing, embedding, microtomy, staining, and laboratory quality control
- Experience operating histology laboratory equipment
- Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills
- Strong communication and teamwork abilities
- Ability to work independently while maintaining accuracy and efficiency
- Commitment to laboratory quality standards and patient safety
