Position: Histotechnologist
Location: Houston, TX
Contract Length: 13 Weeks
Shift: Night Shift
Schedule: 5×8
Experience Required: 2 Years
Pay Rate:$37 to $42 per hour
Responsibilities
Prepare and process human tissue specimens for microscopic examination and diagnosis
Perform fixation, processing, embedding, microtomy, and staining procedures
Prepare paraffin tissue blocks and produce high-quality tissue sections
Perform routine and special stains according to laboratory protocols
Assist with immunohistochemistry (IHC) procedures and other advanced histology techniques as required
Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot histology laboratory equipment
Perform quality control checks to ensure specimen integrity and accurate test results
Label, track, and document specimens accurately throughout the testing process
Review slides for technical quality and prepare them for pathologist interpretation
Maintain accurate records in the laboratory information system (LIS)
Follow laboratory safety, infection prevention, OSHA, HIPAA, and regulatory requirements
Maintain a clean, organized, and safe laboratory environment
Communicate specimen or processing issues promptly to supervisors and pathologists
Participate in quality improvement activities and laboratory workflow optimization
Requirements
Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Histotechnology, Medical Laboratory Science, Biology, or a related field
Minimum 2 years of recent Histotechnologist experience
ASCP certification as a Histotechnician (HT) or Histotechnologist (HTL) required by facility
Strong knowledge of tissue processing, embedding, microtomy, and staining techniques
Experience with routine and special stains
Familiarity with immunohistochemistry (IHC) procedures preferred
Experience working with laboratory information systems (LIS)
Strong attention to detail and specimen identification accuracy
Excellent organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills
Ability to work independently during night shifts while maintaining high-quality laboratory standards
Commitment to laboratory safety, quality, and diagnostic accuracy
