Description
American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for an ICU Staff Float Pool position requiring AL or compact RN license, ACLS/BLS/NIHSS certifications, and at least 2 years of critical care experience.
Details
- Float pool position covering General Cardiac, CVICU, MICU, Neuro ICU, and Surgical ICU units within a Level II Trauma Center
- 492-bed hospital with a Level III NICU and Primary Stroke Center
- Assigned a home unit on the first day of orientation
- Patient ratio of 1:2
- 12-hour day and night shifts (7a-7p, 7p-7a) on a 36/48 schedule
- 6-week scheduling cycle with every other weekend rotation, occasionally back-to-back
- No on-call requirements
- Floating required to like units/patient locations, including ICU-to-ICU, ICU-to-MS tasks (limit of 3), and ICU-to-ER/ICU holds
- Uses Cerner EMR, Plum 360 IV pumps, Omnicell medication dispensing, and Spacelabs monitors
- RNs required to read/measure telemetry strips for ICU monitoring
- Support staff includes CNAs (1:10 ratio), charge nurse per shift, phlebotomy, IV/VAT team, and hospitalist coverage
Requirements
- Active RN license (AL or Compact) required
- Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required
- Minimum 2 years of ICU/critical care experience required
- First-time travelers considered if they have at least 2 years of experience and Cerner or Epic experience
- Skills may include vent management, hemodynamic monitoring, arterial lines, IABP, Impella, EKOS, CRRT/PrismaFlex, chest tubes, Swan Ganz catheters, trach care, EVD/ICP monitoring, and titratable drip management depending on assigned unit
- One reference from a charge nurse or above within the past 12 months required for consideration
- Copy of certifications required for consideration
Additional Information
- Provide critical care nursing across multiple ICU specialties including cardiac, cardiovascular, medical, neuro, and surgical intensive care
- Travelers new to the facility or returning after 1+ years will receive 24 hours of classroom orientation and 24 hours on the unit
- Rehire orientation length depends on last date worked at the facility
- Holiday coverage expected for one major and one minor seasonal holiday per policy, though specific dates off are not guaranteed prior to arrival
- Up to 7 days of requested time off may be approved in advance, excluding facility blackout dates
- Any scrub color permitted
- On-site staff parking deck available
- Must reside outside a 60-mile radius of the facility, as local candidates are not accepted
- Former permanent staff must wait 6 months before being considered for a travel assignment
