Job Summary:
Intensive Care Unit (ICU) Float Nurse position in Alexandria, Louisiana. This role involves providing high-quality, independent nursing care within a mixed cardiac and medical ICU setting, managing complex patient conditions such as diabetic ketoacidosis, acute respiratory failure, myocardial infarctions, coronary artery bypass grafts, and ventilator dependence. The position offers a flexible schedule to suit experienced nurses seeking diverse critical care exposure.

Job Details:

  • Schedule: 12-hour shifts, from 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM, with a minimum of 36 hours per week.
  • Required Qualifications: Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing preferred; current RN license in the state of employment or compact license; BLS certification from AHA required; ACLS certification from AHA required; 1 year of experience in a critical care setting preferred; all newly hired experienced RNs must attend New Nurses Orientation within the first 30 days of hire and complete organizational competency validations.
  • Experience: 0 years required; 1 year of experience in the related nursing specialty preferred.
  • Position Requirements: All new hires must complete annual competency verification and departmental-specific training.
  • Schedule: 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM, full-time position.
  • Responsibilities include assessing patients, administering medications and treatments per protocol, monitoring for side effects, documenting care, providing patient and family education, and collaborating with the healthcare team.
  • Competencies: Leader of Self, Leader of Others, or Leader of Leaders, adhering to the scope and standards of practice outlined by the American Nurses Association.
  • Patient population includes those with diabetic ketoacidosis, respiratory failure, myocardial infarctions, post-cardiovascular surgeries, and ventilator-dependent patients. No floating between units is required.
  • No on-call or floating responsibilities.
  • Location: 3330 Masonic Drive, Alexandria, LA 71301.
