Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced ICU RN for a Level II Trauma ICU position requiring ICP monitoring and ventriculostomy experience, working 12-hour night shifts at an acute care hospital in Redding, CA.

Details

  • ICU/Trauma ICU setting in an acute care hospital with a Level II Trauma designation
  • 30-bed unit with a nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:1–2 (approximately 90% of the time will be 1:2)
  • Patient population includes trauma, neuro/stroke, head injuries, ventriculostomies, ICP monitoring, and post-TPA patients
  • RNs are required to titrate vasopressor and sedation drips
  • Hamilton ventilators in use; Respiratory Therapy is assigned specifically to the ICU
  • GE telemetry monitors in use; RNs are required to interpret their own strips (unit secretary runs strips)
  • Charting is done in Cerner
  • 12-hour night shifts (6:45 PM–7:15 AM)
  • Every other weekend required
  • Travelers are first to float; float destinations include PCU, CICU, telemetry, and med/surg units (in CICU, travelers will manage ICU-level patients, not open heart)
  • No on-call or standby requirement for travelers
  • Intensivist and charge nurse available 24/7; charge nurse does not take a patient assignment
  • One unit tech per 30 beds, primarily performing secretary duties

Requirements

  • Active CA RN license (or Compact license) required at time of consideration — pending licenses not accepted
  • Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS — all must be active; pending certifications not accepted
  • PALS preferred at start; would be required if assignment extends beyond 6 months
  • COVID vaccination required
  • Minimum 2–3 years of ICU specialty experience required
  • Experience with ICP monitoring and ventriculostomies is required; candidates without this must have post-TPA patient experience
  • Trauma ICU experience required
  • Cerner EMR experience preferred
  • Must pass the Relias Dysrhythmia exam (basic or advanced) prior to offer confirmation
  • Must pass a proctored on-site Dysrhythmia test on day one of orientation (Pass/Fail)
  • Must pass an on-site sterile technique test (Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing changes) on the first day of orientation (Pass/Fail)
  • Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, including dates of employment and eligibility for rehire
  • Copy of driver's license required for consideration

Additional Information

  • This is a fast-paced unit with a robust interventional radiology program; candidates must be comfortable working hard and asking for help when needed
  • Navy scrubs required
  • Unit orientation is 1 day, with additional days provided as needed
  • Holiday RTO requests will be considered but cannot be guaranteed
  • Candidates must not have been directly employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) by any CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity Health facility within the past year; candidates placed PRN through outside staffing firms will be considered
  • This facility is traveler-friendly and values team collaboration
  • Previous travel experience preferred; candidates with less experience should have a strong background at larger, fast-paced facilities
