Description
American Traveler is hiring a travel RN for an ICU position in Rapid City, SD, requiring a minimum of 1.5–2 years of ICU experience, Epic proficiency, and active TNCC certification.
Details
- Mixed ICU setting with 39 beds divided into pods: MICU, SICU, CICU, and TICU
- Complex patient population including surgical, medical, cardiac, neuro, and trauma cases; diagnoses include ARDS, MI, CVA/TIA, COVID, post-cardiac cath, post-surgical, and multi-system trauma
- Cardiac experience is preferred — CABG/TAVR post-op (24–48 hrs) experience is a plus but not required
- Patient ratios are acuity-dependent: 1:1, 1:2, or rarely 1:3
- 12-hour night shifts, 48 hours per week
- Weekend rotation approximately every other weekend
- No on-call responsibilities
- Floating is uncommon but possible to any adult floor, including Med/Surg or Tele, at a 1:4 ratio
- Charting system: Epic (required), Alaris pumps (transitioning to Baxter), and Omnicell
- Unit support includes CNAs, charge RNs overseeing all ICUs, phlebotomy (peripheral draws), resource nurse (staffing dependent), RT (24/7), and physician coverage including intensivists and APPs
Requirements
- Active RN license — SD or Compact license required
- Current certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS, and TNCC (required prior to start)
- Minimum 1.5–2 years of ICU experience, excluding travel experience; candidates with 1.5 years of ICU experience plus significant non-ICU RN experience may be considered
- Epic EMR experience required
- Proficiency with IV medications including vasopressors, sedation, and paralytics
- Experience with hemodynamic lines, ventilator management, proning, and telemetry
- Experience with Impella, IABP, and CRRT is strongly preferred
- Strong critical thinking, assessment skills, and ability to thrive in a fast-paced, all-critical-patient environment
- 2 professional references dated within the past year required for consideration
- DOB and SSN required for consideration
Additional Information
- First-time travelers will not be considered — a minimum of one prior travel assignment is required
- Candidates must reside at least 100 miles from any Monument Health facility to be eligible
- Former permanent staff must wait 1 year before returning in a travel capacity
- Travelers may occasionally be expected to precept nursing students
- No RTO approved during holidays or the Sturgis Bike Rally (first 3 weeks of August); up to 7 days of RTO may be approved otherwise, provided the full 13-week contract can be fulfilled
- Orientation includes hospital orientation, one 8-hour and one 4-hour department orientation session, and two 12-hour floor orientation shifts
