Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for an ICU position requiring 18 months to 2 years of ICU experience and a NC or compact RN license.

Details

  • in a hospital with 109 licensed beds, an Advanced Primary Stroke Center with no trauma designation, and not a teaching facility
  • Medical Intensive Care unit with 10 ICU beds and 4 PCU beds used only for surge capacity
  • Average daily census of approximately 7.3 patients
  • Patient population includes sepsis, COPD, CHF, chest pain, MI, NSTEMI, stroke, TIA, new onset cardiac arrhythmia, uncontrolled DM/DKA, minor trauma, ETOH withdrawal, ARDS, and respiratory illnesses such as flu, COVID, and PNA
  • RN to patient ratio of 1:2-3 depending on acuity, often 3 patients, which may be a mix of ICU and Med/Tele patients
  • CNA support available 1:10 on dayshift only, not available overnight
  • 12hr Day Shift schedule, 0700-1900, 36 hours per week
  • Weekend rotation required at minimum every other weekend
  • No on-call or call-back requirements for travelers
  • Floating required within Region 1 facilities (Cabarrus, University City, Stanly, Lake Norman, Central Division including CMC Main, Mercy, and LCH peds only) to Med/Tele, ICU, PCU, ED holds, or Behavioral Health (medication pass and charting only) as needed within scope of practice
  • Uses Epic EMR, Alaris IV pumps, Omnicell medication dispensing, and Phillips monitors

Requirements

  • Active RN license (NC or Compact) required
  • Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required
  • Minimum 18 months to 2 years of ICU RN experience required
  • Stroke experience and NIH stroke assessments required
  • Cardiac rhythm interpretation skills required
  • Experience with arterial lines, CVPs, and critical care drips required
  • Experience with chest tubes, PIV starts, and TNK administration required
  • Vent management experience required (RT manages ventilator settings)
  • Trach care and NGT placement experience required
  • Experience with drain/tube management including Dobhoff, PEG tubes, Hemovac, JP drains, flexiseals, and foley insertion/management required
  • PCA pump management and wound care experience required
  • Ability to complete 12-lead EKGs, including STAT EKGs, required
  • Medication drip management experience required, including critical care and cardiac drip titration, heparin, blood products, and IV fluids
  • Epic EMR experience required
  • Last 4 digits of SSN and full date of birth required for consideration
  • At least one professional reference dated within the past year from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN required

Additional Information

  • Provide direct patient care in a fast-paced ICU setting, managing complex medical and cardiac patients
  • Bedside and central telemetry monitoring performed by RNs on the unit
  • Support team includes a House Supervisor, Charge Nurse, RT 24/7, Hospitalist 24/7, and an Intensivist who rounds Monday-Friday
  • Hospitalist is first call for intubation, followed by CRNA and then ED as third line
  • Overnight urgent situations are directed to the VCC
  • IV/VAT team and phlebotomy support available on dayshift only
  • Orientation includes New Employee Orientation (NEO) plus 2-3 days of departmental orientation
  • Holiday coverage required for 75% of holidays
  • RTO subject to manager approval
  • Schedule operates on a 6-week cycle, with clock-in required between 1838 and 1845
  • Navy scrubs required with no t-shirts or Crocs; undershirts must be white or navy
  • Free parking available onsite
  • Unit culture is teamwork-oriented with an emphasis on open communication and constructive feedback
  • First-time travelers are welcome to apply
