Description

American Traveler is seeking an RN for a Stepdown/PCU position requiring frequent floating to ICU and MedSurg units, ICU experience, and a SC or compact RN license.

Details

  • Stepdown/PCU unit within a hospital setting
  • Day shift 3x12 hours (7:00-19:00)
  • Patient ratios vary by unit: Stepdown 1:4-5, ICU 1:2, MedSurg 1:5-6
  • Frequent floating required across Stepdown, ICU, and MedSurg units
  • Every other weekend (EOW) required
  • Weekly orientation held every Wednesday
  • Cares for patients on non-titrating drips including Amiodarone, NTG, Cardizem, Lopressor, and Cardene
  • Manages vascular patients including fem-pop and CEA cases
  • Treats NSTEMI patients and those status-post cardiac catheterization with intervention
  • Provides care for CIWA patients receiving IVP Ativan
  • Manages peritoneal dialysis and hemodialysis (in Dialysis Department)
  • Cares for patients on stable BiPAP, heated high-flow oxygen (<80%), and home ventilators (Trilogy)
  • Performs wound care and nebulizer treatments
  • Uses Meditech EMR

Requirements

  • Active SC or compact RN license required
  • BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required
  • Minimum 2 years of PCU/Stepdown/ICU experience required
  • ICU experience required due to floating expectations
  • Meditech charting experience preferred
  • Comfort floating between Stepdown, ICU, and MedSurg units required
  • Skilled in central line, PICC line, and peripheral line care/management
  • Experience with blood product administration and IV therapy/phlebotomy
  • Respiratory care skills including BiPAP/CPAP management, chest tube care, and tracheostomy management
  • Experience titrating cardiac and vasoactive drips
  • Skilled in interpretation and management of cardiac dysrhythmias
  • Experience with wound care/wound vac and isolation precautions/PPE
  • Cardiovascular experience including pacemaker management and pre/post cardiac catheterization care

Additional Information

  • Must reside outside a 50-mile radius of the facility to qualify for travel rate
  • Local candidates within the 50-mile radius are not accepted
  • Must wear royal blue and white scrubs
  • Expected to work some holidays and weekends in rotation with staff
  • RTO must be approved prior to assignment start; minimal to no RTO permitted, especially during the first weeks of the assignment
  • Previous employees must have been gone for at least 1 year and in good standing at time of departure to be considered
  • Floating is conducted in rotation with staff and aligned with clinical experience, following Joint Commission standards including appropriate orientation to new units
  • First-time travelers may be considered as travel experience is preferred but not required
