Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for an ICU position requiring strong neuro critical care skills and an active VA or compact RN license.

Details

  • Work in the ICU of a hospital environment
  • Critical care patient population including neuro, medical, surgical, and trauma cases
  • Typical patient ratio of 1:2-3
  • Schedule options of 3x12 or 4x12 shifts, days
  • Every other weekend and holiday coverage required
  • Longer assignment through January 9, 2027 available but not required, with two of three winter holidays required if extended
  • Floating required to Stepdown Unit, Emergency Department, or Medical-Surgical units to care for ICU patients being held
  • Epic EMR experience required

Requirements

  • Active VA or compact RN license in hand at time of submission, no exceptions
  • BLS and ACLS certification (American Heart Association only)
  • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification required
  • Minimum three years of critical care experience preferred, though strong candidates with less experience may be considered
  • Proficiency in Epic charting system required
  • Strong neuro critical care experience required
  • Skilled in ventilator management, IV drip titration, telemetry monitoring, conscious sedation, and dysrhythmia recognition and management
  • Trauma Level I or II experience preferred
  • No history of license or background hits permitted
  • Must be able to pass a facility EKG competency test with 80% or higher, no remediation available
  • Cannot accommodate PAPR use for fit testing

Additional Information

  • Provide critical care nursing across medical, neuro, surgical, and trauma ICU populations
  • Perform advanced skills including arterial line management, central and PICC line care, CVVHD/CRRT, EVD, ICP monitoring, and management of ventilated and multisystem organ failure patients
  • Support post-craniotomy, post-neurosurgery, and traumatic brain injury patients as needed
  • Must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible for consideration
  • Requested time off must be submitted for review and is approved on a case-by-case basis
  • First-time travelers are not preferred for this position
  • Approximately 3 hours of pre-start modules required, billable to the traveler
