ICU Registered Nurse (RN)

Overview

We are seeking an experienced ICU Registered Nurse to provide high-quality patient care in a challenging and rewarding environment. This position requires a focus on trauma and neuro-surgical patients within a Level 1 trauma center.

Unit Information

• Unit Type: Surgical ICU - Trauma Neuro Surgery
• Number of Beds: 32
• Nurse to Patient Ratios: 1:2, 1:1

Required Certifications

• BLS
• ACLS
• NIHSS

Common Diagnoses and Types of Patients

• Level 1 trauma cases
• Gunshot wounds (GSW)
• Blunt trauma
• Motor vehicle accidents (MVAs)
• Surgical intervention (ex-lap, craniotomy)
• Specialty neuro-surgery cases
• Stroke (status post-TPA), COVID-19, sepsis, ARDS

Experience and Skills Required

• Minimum of 3 years of recent ICU experience, with at least 2 years in a critical care setting.
• Experience in either neuro or cardiovascular ICU preferred.
• Ability to titrate drips including but not limited to: Propofol, fentanyl, versed, precedex, morphine, dilaudid, ketamine, rocuronium, levophed, vasopressin, cardene, labetalol, dopamine, dobutamine, heparin, and insulin.
• Charge nurse experience is required; charge nurses will not take on patient assignments.

Additional Unit Details

• No nurse aides available on this unit, except for sitters and Health Unit Secretaries.
• Hospitalist or Intensivist available 24/7.
• Respiratory Therapy support available 24/7 in the ICU.
• Registered Nurses are required to read and interpret their own telemetry strips using GE monitors.

Shifts & Scheduling

• Self-scheduling is encouraged, though the manager may need to balance shifts for unit needs.
• Weekend requirements include 3 weekend shifts in a 4-week schedule.
• Nightshift weekends are Friday to Saturday, dayshift on Saturday to Sunday.
• May have 1 holiday off during the assignment.

Floating Requirements

RNs may be required to float to telemetry units with a 1:3 or 1:4 patient-to-nurse ratio as needed.

Orientation

A 1-2 day unit/department-specific orientation will be provided.

Additional Information

• Skills validation for trauma, neuro, and specialty devices will be conducted as needed.
• Expectations include floating between the surgical ICU, medical ICU, and other critical care units.
