Description

American Traveler is hiring an ICU RN with strong neuro critical care experience and an active VA or Compact RN license to work day shifts at a coastal Virginia hospital.

Details

• Work in the ICU of a hospital setting
• Typical patient ratio of 1:2-3
• Day shift schedule with 3x12 or 4x12 hour shifts
• Every other weekend required
• Floating required to Stepdown, Emergency Department, or Medical-Surgical units to care for ICU patients being held
• Holiday coverage required within the contract, including two of the three winter holidays
• Uses Epic EMR

Requirements

• Active Virginia or Compact RN license required in hand at time of consideration
• Current certifications: BLS and ACLS (American Heart Association only), and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
• 3 years of critical care experience preferred; strong candidates with less experience may be considered
• Proficiency in Epic EMR required
• Strong neuro critical care experience required
• Skilled in ventilator management, IV drip titration, telemetry monitoring, conscious sedation, and dysrhythmia recognition and management
• Experience with emergency response and critical care management required
• Trauma Level I or II experience preferred
• Must pass required EKG/telemetry competency test with a score of 80% or higher, with only one attempt permitted

Additional Information

• Provide critical care nursing to ICU patients, including neuro critical care cases such as CVA/stroke, post-craniotomy, and traumatic brain injury management
• Perform advanced procedures including EVD, ICP monitoring, lumbar drains, and hypothermia protocol management
• Manage central lines, arterial lines, PICC lines, and blood product administration
• Titrate cardiac and vasoactive drips and manage continuous IV sedation or paralytics as needed
• Facility cannot accommodate PAPR use for fit testing
• Must complete 3 hours of required pre-start modules
• Candidates must not have any prior license or background hits
• Local RN candidates living within 50 miles of the facility are not eligible for this position
• First-time travelers may be considered, though previous travel experience is preferred
