Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced ICU RN for a mixed acuity unit, requiring at least 1 year of ICU experience and an active AL or compact RN license.

Details

  • Mixed acuity 18-bed unit including intermediate care and non-vented ICU level patients
  • Patient population includes neurological and post-procedural cases (post TNK, neuro IR procedures, embolizations, angiography, hemorrhages, aneurysms, burr holes, VP shunts, craniotomy/craniectomy, lumbar drains, spinal cord injuries, EVDs, continuous EEG) as well as respiratory failure, CHF, hypotension, sepsis, AMS, DKA, and electrolyte abnormalities
  • RN to patient ratio of 1:3 based on acuity, CNA ratio of 1:12
  • Uses Cerner EMR, Plum 360 IV pumps, Omnicell medication dispensing, Spacelabs and Resparray monitors, bedside monitors, and bladder scanners
  • 12-hour day shifts on a 36/48 schedule, shift times 7a-7p or 7p-7a on a 6-week schedule cycle
  • Weekend rotation every other weekend, occasional back-to-back weekends possible
  • No on-call requirements
  • Floating required to like units/patient locations, including ICU-MS task assignments (limit of 3) or ICU-ER/ICU holds

Requirements

  • Active RN license (AL or compact) required
  • Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required
  • Minimum 1 year of ICU experience required; first-time travelers considered with 2 years of ICU experience
  • Experience managing patients on BiPAP/CPAP, cardiac rhythm interpretation, CVP monitoring, hemodynamic line monitoring, post-surgical drains, trachs, and chest tubes required
  • Experience with titratable drips including Cardizem, Dobutamine, Dopamine, Esmolol, Insulin, Cardene, Nitro, Levophed, and Epinephrine required
  • Ability to read and measure telemetry strips required
  • Cerner EMR experience preferred

Additional Information

  • Provide direct patient care within a mixed acuity ICU/PCU setting supported by CNAs, HUC/receptionist staff, charge nurse, phlebotomy, IV/VAT team, rapid response team, and a dedicated resource nurse/educator
  • 24/7 respiratory therapy, hospitalist, and intensivist coverage available
  • Travelers new to the facility or returning after 1+ years receive 24 hours of classroom orientation and 24 hours of unit orientation
  • Holiday coverage required for one major and one minor seasonal holiday per policy, though specific dates off are not guaranteed prior to arrival
  • Up to 7 days of time off may be pre-approved excluding blackout dates
  • Scrubs of any color permitted
  • Free on-campus and parking deck parking available
  • Must reside outside a 60-mile radius of the facility; local candidates not accepted
  • Former staff must wait 6 months before being considered as a traveler
