Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for an ICU position requiring 2 years of recent ICU experience and a 1:2 patient ratio at a Level I Trauma teaching hospital.

Details

  • Work in the ICU of a Level I Trauma, Magnet-designated teaching hospital
  • Care for patients with respiratory failure/ARDS, cardiac arrhythmias, stroke, cardiac arrest, DKA, multi-organ failure, and sepsis
  • Unit covers pre/post-op cardiac, thoracic, and abdominal surgeries, medicine and neuro-medicine overflow, and pre/post-transplant and end-of-life/organ donation care
  • Maintain a 1:2 patient ratio
  • Night shift schedule (3x12 hours, 19:00-7:30) with option to sign for 36 or 48 hours per week
  • Work every other weekend
  • No on-call responsibilities
  • Float within service line to other ICU units as needed
  • Charge RN assignments and holiday shifts required as needed per unit
  • Epic EMR charting required

Requirements

  • Active MO or compact RN license required (must match permanent residence)
  • Current certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS (CPI and TNCC preferred)
  • Minimum 2 years of recent ICU experience required
  • Level II Trauma experience required; Level I Trauma and teaching hospital experience preferred
  • Prior travel nursing experience required
  • Epic charting experience required
  • Skilled in arterial line management, blood product administration, central and PICC line care, IV therapy, and starting/maintaining IVs
  • Experience with ventilator management, BiPAP/CPAP, ABG interpretation, suctioning (ETT, NT), and respiratory failure care
  • Experience with CVP, PA line/Swan Ganz monitoring, dysrhythmia interpretation and management, and multisystem organ dysfunction/failure care
  • Experience with CRRT/dialysis, defibrillator/crash cart use, and hemodynamic/invasive monitoring
  • Experience with continuous IV sedation, titration of cardiac and vasoactive drips, and emergency medications
  • CVA/acute stroke management experience required
  • Prior charge RN experience preferred

Additional Information

  • Provide critical care nursing to a complex ICU population utilizing IV pumps/titration, CRRT/dialysis, ventilators/BiPAP, hemodynamic monitoring, and defibrillator/crash cart equipment
  • Navy scrub color required
  • No more than 7 days of RTO allowed per 13-week contract, with no RTO permitted during the first week of the assignment
  • Candidates must reside at least 75 miles from the facility; no local candidates accepted
  • Standard travelers may stay up to 18 months, followed by a required 3-month break in service
  • Permanent employees must wait 1 year before returning to any BJC facility as a traveler
  • First-time travelers are not accepted for this position
  • Facial hair must allow for proper respirator fit testing or must be shaved for compliance
