Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced ICU RN for a night shift position requiring strong neuro critical care skills and an active VA or compact RN license.

  • Level ICU night shift setting - Medical, Neuro, Surgical, and Trauma ICU work settings
  • Typical patient ratio is 1:2-3
  • Schedule consists of 3x12 or 4x12 hour night shifts (7:00 PM - 7:30 AM)
  • Every other weekend and holiday coverage required within the contract
  • Floating required to Stepdown Unit, Emergency Department, or Medical-Surgical units to care for ICU patients being held
  • Epic EMR experience required

Requirements

  • Active Virginia or Compact RN license required in hand at time of consideration
  • BLS and ACLS certification through American Heart Association required
  • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification required
  • Minimum 3 years of critical care experience preferred
  • Proficiency in Epic EMR required
  • Strong neuro critical care experience required
  • Skilled in ventilator management, IV drip titration, telemetry monitoring, conscious sedation, and dysrhythmia recognition and management
  • Experience with arterial line management, central line care, PICC line management, and blood product administration
  • Experience with CVVHD/CRRT and management of acute/chronic renal failure preferred
  • Experience with EVD, ICP monitoring, hypothermia protocol, and post-craniotomy/neurosurgery care preferred
  • Experience managing traumatic brain injury and spinal cord injury patients preferred
  • Trauma Level I or II experience preferred
  • EKG proficiency test required with minimum 80% passing score, no remediation available
  • No prior license or background history issues permitted for consideration
  • Unable to accommodate PAPR fit testing

Additional Information

  • Provide critical care nursing to complex ICU patients including neuro, trauma, and multisystem organ dysfunction cases
  • Perform emergency response and critical care management including procedural sedation and cardiac drip titration
  • Complete 3 hours of required orientation modules prior to start date
  • Two of three winter holidays must be worked if extending assignment through January 2027
  • Facility located in Coastal Virginia near Virginia Beach and Norfolk with outdoor recreational opportunities
  • Candidates residing within 50 miles of the facility are not eligible for this position
  • First-time travelers are not required to have prior travel experience for consideration
