Description

American Traveler is hiring an RN for an ICU/PCU Float position requiring Level I/II trauma facility experience and comfort working across all ICU and PCU units.

Details

  • Float position covering all ICU and PCU units in an acute care teaching hospital
  • Night shift schedule of 3x12 hours from 6:45pm to 7:15am
  • ICU average ratio is 2:1 and PCU average ratio is 5:1
  • EPIC charting experience required
  • Floating required, with staffing needs reassessed every 4 hours resulting in potential floats 2-3 times per shift
  • Weekend requirement of either every other weekend or 6 weekend shifts within a 6-week block
  • Must work one holiday per 13-week contract
  • 13-week contract length

Requirements

  • Active VA State or Compact RN license required, unless candidate holds a single-state license from a non-compact state in which case pending license may be accepted
  • Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required; CPI preferred
  • Minimum 2 years of ICU experience preferred
  • Experience at a large Level I or Level II trauma facility required
  • Skilled in IV therapy including arterial line management, central/PICC line care, blood product administration, and IV initiation and maintenance
  • Experience with BiPAP/CPAP management and care of ventilated patients
  • Proficient in administering continuous IV sedation, emergency medications, and titrating cardiac and vasoactive drips
  • Wound care experience with surgical wounds involving drains or wound vacs
  • Skilled in cardiac monitoring including dysrhythmia interpretation and management
  • Experience with IV insulin protocol adherence
  • EPIC charting system experience required

  • Work in a 703-bed acute care teaching hospital that serves as the region's only Level I Trauma Center for both adult and pediatric patients
  • Facility is Magnet-designated for nursing excellence and affiliated with a school of medicine
  • Certified as an Advanced Thrombectomy Capable Stroke Center
  • First-time travelers are welcome to apply
  • Local candidates may be accepted depending on radius criteria
  • Previous employees, whether per diem or permanent, must have a minimum one-year separation before returning as a traveler
  • All requested time off, block scheduling, and special scheduling requests must be submitted in advance
  • Facility may call off up to one shift per two-week period
