Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Whole House Float ICU/PCU/MS position requiring comfort across all three specialties and an active VA or compact RN license.

Details

  • Whole House Float role covering ICU, PCU, and Medical-Surgical (MS) units within an acute care teaching hospital
  • Night shift schedule of 3x12 hours (6:45pm-7:15am), with 4x12 schedules available upon request
  • ICU average ratio of 2:1, PCU average ratio of 5:1, and MS average ratio of 6:1 (may flex up to 7:1)
  • Staffing needs reassessed every 4 hours, so floating between units may occur 2-3 times per shift
  • Weekend requirement of every other weekend or 6 weekend shifts within a 6-week scheduling block
  • One holiday shift required per 13-week contract
  • EPIC EMR experience required

Requirements

  • Active Virginia State or Compact RN license required (single-state license from a non-compact state accepted if pending)
  • Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required
  • Minimum 2 years of ICU experience required, ideally from a large Level I or Level II trauma facility
  • Must be comfortable working across ICU, PCU, and MS units with ratios of at least 1:5
  • Experienced in IV therapy, phlebotomy, PICC line management, central line care, arterial line management, and blood product administration
  • Skilled in trach management and non-invasive airway support including nasal cannula, CPAP/BiPAP, ventilator management, and chest tubes (Emerson/PleurEvac)
  • Proficient in cardiac monitoring, continuous IV sedation, emergency medications, and titrating cardiac and vasoactive drips
  • Two professional references required for consideration
  • Copy of driver's license and Social Security card required for consideration

Additional Information

  • Work within a 703-bed acute care teaching hospital and flagship facility, recognized as the region's only Level I Trauma Center for both adult and pediatric patients
  • Facility is Magnet-designated for nursing excellence and affiliated with a university medical school
  • Certified as an Advanced Thrombectomy Capable Stroke Center
  • Facility may call off up to 1 shift per 2-week period
  • All RTO, block, and special scheduling requests must be submitted at time of consideration
