Description

American Traveler is hiring a Night Shift RN for an ICU position requiring 3+ years of ICU experience and an active WI or compact RN license.

Details

  • 17-bed Critical Care ICU at a Level III Trauma Center with a Level II NICU and Primary Stroke Center
  • Patient population includes general medical (COVID, sepsis, ETOH, IVDA, OD, SI, delirium, GIB, stroke w/TPA, ARF), surgical (general, open abdomen, ortho total joints, ENT, OB-GYN), and cardiac/vascular cases (fem-pop bypass, CABG, valves, post cath radial approach, AAA, amputations)
  • RN to patient ratio of 1:2 based on acuity
  • CNA ratio of 1:8 days and 1:17 nights
  • 12-hour night shift schedule from 1900-0730, 36 hours per week
  • Weekend rotation every other weekend
  • Floating to intermediate units (1:3), MSU, ED boarding (1:4), and observation units (1:4) required if census dips, though this is typically rare
  • Travelers float before staff
  • No on-call requirements
  • EPIC EMR preferred
  • Uses Alaris and Pyxis equipment
  • 24/7 intensivist and RT support with day-shift ICU pharmacist and unit secretary from 0700-1930

Requirements

  • Active WI or compact RN license required
  • BLS and ACLS certification required
  • NIHSS certification preferred
  • Minimum 3 years of ICU experience required, including for first-time travelers
  • CRRT (NxStage) experience preferred
  • Skills required include vent/trach management, invasive line management (A-line, CVP, Swan), drain/tube management, foley management, chest tubes, post-surgical recovery, post cath experience, CVVH, balloon pumps, and CRRT (NxStage)
  • Fresh heart experience preferred
  • One professional reference dated within the last year required from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN
  • Candidate DOB and last 4 of SSN required for consideration

Additional Information

  • Provide critical care nursing to a diverse ICU population including cardiac, surgical, and general medical patients
  • One day of orientation including badge access, system logins, and meet and greet with the educator and nurse manager, followed by a shift with a preceptor
  • Holiday coverage required every other holiday
  • COVID vaccine required
  • N95 and PAPR PPE provided
  • Scrubs may be any color; camo, denim, and hoodies not permitted
  • RTO subject to manager approval
  • Free parking provided
  • No radius rules; local candidates accepted at the same rate
  • First-time travelers with 3+ years of ICU experience are welcome to apply
  • Former employees of the health system or its subsidiaries must be separated for at least 12 months before becoming eligible for travel assignments
  • More than two sick calls may prompt a discussion regarding contract status
