Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for an ICU position requiring a WI or compact RN license and a minimum of 3 years of ICU experience.

Details

  • Work in a 17-bed ICU within a Level III Trauma Center, Level II NICU, and Primary Stroke Center
  • Care for a diverse patient population including sepsis, ETOH, IVDA, OD, SI, delirium, GI bleeds, strokes with TPA, ARF, COVID, and DKA cases
  • Manage surgical patients including general, open abdominal, ortho (total joints), ENT, and OBGYN cases
  • Treat cardiac and vascular patients including fempops, CABG, EVAR, valves, post cath (radial and femoral), AAA, and amputations
  • Patient ratio of 1:2 based on acuity
  • 12-hour night shift schedule (1900-0730) with 36 standard hours per week
  • Weekend rotation required every other weekend
  • No on-call requirements
  • May float within scope of practice to intermediate units (1:3), MSU, ED Boarding (1:4), or Observation units (1:4), with travelers floated first
  • Floating is typically rare and occurs if census dips
  • Uses Epic EMR
  • Uses Alaris IV pumps and Pyxis medication dispensing system
  • Unit-specific equipment includes NxStage CRRT

Requirements

  • Active WI or compact RN license required
  • BLS and ACLS certifications required
  • NIHSS certification preferred
  • Minimum 3 years of ICU experience required
  • Skilled in vent/trach management, invasive line management (art lines, CVP, Swan-Ganz), drains, chest tubes, and foley management
  • Experience with post-surgical recovery, post-cath care, CVVH, and CRRT required
  • Cardiovascular and CV surgery experience preferred, including IABP and Impella devices
  • Epic EMR experience preferred
  • Candidate's middle name or initial, date of birth, and last 4 digits of SSN required for consideration
  • Minimum 1 professional reference dated within the last year from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN required

Additional Information

  • Support team includes CNAs, receptionist/HUC, charge nurse, PM ICU Supervisor, phlebotomy, educator, RT, hospitalist, intensivist, and ICU-specific pharmacist
  • One day of orientation includes meeting with the educator for badge access and system logins, a meet-and-greet with the Nurse Manager, and shift shadowing with a preceptor
  • Holiday coverage required for 1 holiday per contract
  • RTO requests must be approved through the manager
  • Schedules are built in 4-week increments
  • Scrubs may be any color, but camo, graphics, logos, or designs are not permitted
  • Free parking is available
  • First-time travelers are welcome to apply
  • Local candidates are accepted at the same rate with no radius rules
  • Former employees of the health system or its subsidiaries must be separated for at least 12 months before becoming eligible for travel assignments
  • More than 2 sick calls may prompt a discussion regarding contract status
