Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced ICU RN for a Level 2 trauma acute care unit requiring a Nebraska or compact RN license and prior ICU experience.

Details

  • Work in a 33-bed ICU within an acute care hospital with an average daily census of 16
  • Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:2-3 for adult patients
  • Care for patients with trauma, cardiac issues, overdose/substance abuse, sepsis, post-stent and pacemaker placement, stroke, vascular cases, renal failure, heart failure, and respiratory distress
  • Required to titrate drips including cardiac, insulin, and sedation medications
  • Manage respiratory therapy equipment ranging from nasal cannula to ventilators, with troubleshooting responsibilities
  • Read, interpret, and document telemetry strips using GE monitors with tele tech oversight
  • Support staff includes nurse aides based on census and a Healthcare Support Tech available M-F 0800-1630
  • 12-hour day shifts scheduled 0630-1830
  • Self-scheduling available for core staff with travelers added into the schedule; block scheduling cannot be guaranteed
  • Float to PCU and occasionally MedSurg at a 1:4 or 1:5 ratio
  • Work every other weekend (Saturday and Sunday)
  • On-call shifts require a 30-minute arrival time when called back in
  • Uses EPIC EMR

Requirements

  • Active Nebraska (NE) or Compact RN license required
  • Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
  • Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS
  • Acute care and ICU experience required
  • Driver's license required at time of consideration to confirm permanent residence

Additional Information

  • Provide direct ICU nursing care including drip titration, ventilator management, and telemetry monitoring
  • Complete 1 shift of unit/department-specific orientation
  • Must reside at least 50 miles from the facility, verified by driver's license
  • Candidates may not have been directly employed (full time, part time, or PRN) with any CommonSpirit-associated facility, including CHI or Dignity, within the past year
  • Minimum coverage of 2 holidays falling within the contract timeframe required
  • Up to 7 days of RTO may be requested upfront per 13-week contract; additional RTO will not be approved after submission
  • Artificial fingernails are prohibited in all patient care departments; refusal to comply will result in contract termination
  • Must pass an open-book skills exam during orientation with a minimum score of 90%; failure to pass will result in termination
  • Hospital may cancel up to 4 shifts per 13-week assignment (3 shifts for shorter assignments)
  • First-time travelers may be considered for this position
