Description

American Traveler is hiring a night shift RN for an ICU position requiring a Compact RN license and at least 2 years of ICU experience.

Details

  • Acute care ICU unit with 4 beds and a 1:2 nurse-to-patient ratio
  • Patient population includes respiratory failure, AFib/RVR, suicide, detox, occasional art lines, some medsurg overflow, and occasional pediatric patients
  • No PCU or intermediate care unit within the facility
  • RNs are required to titrate drips including propofol, cardizem, insulin, precedex, and levophed
  • House Supervisor oversees the unit; there is no dedicated charge nurse
  • 1 clinical assistant typically covers the unit 24 hours a day depending on census
  • In-house Hospitalist/Intensivist and 24/7 Respiratory Therapy coverage with full equipment support (vents, CPAP, BiPap)
  • RNs are responsible for monitoring and reading their own telemetry strips house-wide for medsurg and ICU
  • EPIC EMR system used for charting
  • 12-hour night shifts with a schedule of 6:45-7:15
  • Weekend requirements are every other weekend, with night shift weekends falling Friday, Saturday, and Sunday
  • Holiday coverage rotates with regular staff
  • No call or standby requirements
  • Floating to medsurg may be required during low census, though typically not with a full patient load
  • Any scrub color is acceptable except camo or orange

Requirements

  • Active RN license (Compact or West Virginia state license) currently in hand
  • Current certifications: BLS, ACLS, PALS, and NIHSS (AHA only)
  • Minimum 2 years of ICU experience required
  • BSN not required for this position
  • Unexpired driver's license required for consideration

Additional Information

  • Provide critical care nursing to ICU patients including drip titration and close monitoring
  • Unit-specific orientation includes a manager review, facility tour, introductions, policy discussion, and 3-5 days of on-unit training
  • Additional training coordinated through the education department for meditech, pharmacy, and lab systems
  • Candidates must reside within a 50-mile radius of the facility, and local candidates will not be considered
  • Travelers who previously worked at any WVU Medicine location must have taken a 2-year break before reapplying
  • Former permanent staff of this facility are not eligible to return as travelers
  • Travelers may not work within the WVU Medicine system for longer than a cumulative year without taking a 2-year break
  • All candidates interview directly with the unit manager
  • Extension requests cannot be made until a traveler is within 45 days of their current end date
