Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced ICU RN for a 13-week night shift assignment at a Level 1 trauma tertiary hospital, requiring 2 years of recent ICU experience.

Details

  • Level 1 trauma, acute care setting in a Med Surg ICU (34 beds)
  • Patient population includes adults and pediatric patients over 15 years old
  • Nurse-to-patient ratios of 1:1-2 in ICU, 1:4-5 in PCU, and 1:5-6 in Med Surg
  • Common diagnoses include neuro surgery/thrombectomy, respiratory failure, ARDS, MODS, sepsis, stroke, cardiogenic shock, renal failure (CRRT), general surgery, psych/OD, GI bleeds, and complex cancer surgeries
  • Utilizes CVPs, A-lines, Swans, EV-1000, ICP monitoring, Zoll Thermoguard for hypothermia protocol, and Bell Mont rapid transfuser
  • RNs required to titrate drips including vasopressors, paralytics, narcotics, sedation, and antiarrhythmics
  • Draeger heart monitoring with centralized telemetry; RNs must read and interpret their own strips
  • Nasal cannula to vent management with RT support for troubleshooting
  • Charge nurse present each shift and responds to RRTs and Codes
  • Nurse aides/patient care techs on unit at a 1:18 ratio
  • Uses EPIC EMR
  • 12-hour night shifts (1830-0630)
  • Weekend rotation required every other weekend
  • Floating required to all inpatient units, excluding Maternity/NICU

Requirements

  • Active RN license (NE state or Compact) required, pending licenses not accepted
  • Active BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required, pending certifications not accepted
  • Minimum 2 years of recent ICU experience required
  • Driver's license required for consideration

Additional Information

  • Unit is fast-paced with fluctuating volume as the system's primary tertiary hospital
  • Success on this unit favors nurses who are inquisitive, positive, collaborative, and strong critical thinkers
  • Collaborative team environment working alongside attendings, fellows, and residents
  • 2 shifts of unit-specific orientation provided
  • Holiday coverage required for 2 of 3 major holidays or every other holiday based on unit needs
  • Navy blue scrub color required
  • Artificial nails are prohibited in all patient care departments
  • Interview with unit leaders required as part of the hiring process
  • Must pass an open-book skills exam during orientation with a minimum score of 90%
  • Candidates must reside at least 50 miles from the facility
  • Candidates may not currently or recently be employed full-time, part-time, or PRN with any CommonSpirit-associated facility, including CHI or Dignity
  • Up to 7 days of RTO must be requested upfront for the 13-week contract; additional RTO will not be approved
