Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced ICU RN for a travel assignment at a Level II Trauma Center in Bangor, ME, with required neuro and trauma experience including EVD and ICP monitoring.
Details
- Work setting is a 411-bed Level II Trauma Center with a 26-bed ICU, including some negative pressure rooms
- Patient population includes medical, surgical, trauma, neuro, ortho, and interventional cases such as ICP monitoring, EVD, DKA, multi-system trauma, sepsis, ARDS, COVID, PNA, COPD, stroke, and COPD
- Patient ratio is 1:2 based on acuity, with the possibility of a temporary 3rd patient during discharge or transfer transitions
- Day shift: 7A–7P, 36 hours per week
- Weekend rotation required: every other weekend (Sat/Sun for day shift)
- No on-call requirements
- Holiday coverage varies based on need; all holiday requests must be submitted to the manager for approval
- Float possibilities include the Cardiac Care Unit (ICU), Cardiac Stepdown, Medical Stepdown, and PICU (for those with pediatric experience and PALS)
- Cerner is used for charting (experience preferred); Alaris and Pyxis are also utilized
Requirements
- Active ME or Compact RN license required
- Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required; PALS preferred
- Minimum 2 years of ICU experience required
- Neuro and trauma experience are required, specifically EVD and ICP monitoring
- Proficiency in ventilator management, critical care drips, drain management, hemodynamic lines (A-lines/CVP), cardiac rhythm recognition, chest tubes, and tracheostomy care
- Strong assessment skills required
- Candidate's permanent address must be 100+ miles south/southwest of the facility to be eligible
- Candidates must not have previously worked at any Northern Light Health Hospital in a permanent capacity
- Two professional references within the past year required, with at least one from a supervisor, manager, director, or charge nurse (peer references not accepted)
- Copies of all certifications required for consideration
- Full SSN and a copy of driver's license required for consideration
- Flu vaccination required for clearance to start
- Cerner experience preferred

- Candidates with PICU experience may be floated to the PICU if experienced and a need arises — please indicate PICU experience when applying
- Charge nurse experience is a plus; please indicate whether or not you have worked in a charge RN (CRN) capacity
- Unit support includes a resource nurse/house supervisor, respiratory therapy (RT), hospitalist, and intensivist available 24/7, plus a trauma surgery team for their own patients; PT/OT available Mon–Fri
- Orientation consists of a general hospital orientation followed by 1 shift on the unit
- All RTO requests must be submitted at the time of application
- Scrubs: any solid color, professional appearance required
