Description

American Traveler is hiring an ICU RN for a 13-week night shift assignment requiring 2 years of ICU experience and the ability to float to Med Surg.

Details

  • Combined unit with 4 ICU beds and 19 Medical beds, with capacity to convert beds to ICU or PCU as needed
  • Patient ratios: Med Surg 1:5 (pediatric patients ages 4-17 at 1:4), PCU 1:3-4, ICU 1:1 or 1:2 (ICU ratios are not flexed)
  • Patient population includes ventilated patients, respiratory distress, medical/ortho/abdominal surgery, stable strokes with TPA, STEMIs not requiring intervention, hysterectomies, infectious disease, and occasional pediatric cases (lap appys, GI scopes)
  • No dialysis or cath lab on unit; unstable patients are transferred out
  • RNs titrate all critical drips including sedation, vasoactive medications, and paralytics
  • Uses EPIC EMR
  • 12-hour night shifts from 6p to 0630, with set or block scheduling in 6-week increments
  • Every other weekend required (Friday/Saturday/Sunday nights)
  • Holiday rotation required with permanent staff
  • No call or standby requirement
  • Must float within Region II facilities as needed: St. Clare Hospital (Lakewood, WA), St. Joseph Medical Center (Tacoma, WA), and St. Elizabeth Hospital (Enumclaw, WA)
  • Charge Nurse and/or Hospital Resource Nurse (HRN) on every shift, with SWAT RNs supporting PICC/midline/IV needs
  • Respiratory Therapy in house 24/7 managing vent, BiPap, and CPAP settings
  • Telemetry monitoring with virtual monitor tech support via Vocera; RNs must read and interpret their own telemetry strips
  • Virtual ICU nurses and in-room cameras present

Requirements

  • Active WA or Compact RN license required
  • Current certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS, and PALS or ENPC
  • Minimum 2 years of ICU experience required
  • Must be able to take full Med Surg assignments as part of unit rotation
  • Strong vent management knowledge required
  • BSN not required

Additional Information

  • ICU nurses are also members of the Code Team, though travelers will not be required to function on the Code Team unless they have that experience
  • Pediatric experience preferred but not required
  • Must demonstrate strong autonomy and willingness to ask for help when needed
  • Any color professional scrubs permitted
  • Unit-specific orientation ranges from 2-6 shifts depending on traveler's comfort level
