Travel Nursing Job Details

• Schedule: Night shifts, 7:00 p.m.–7:00 a.m.; 36 hours per week
• Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
• Patient Ratios: Typically 1:1 to 1:2, with occasional assignment increases based on unit needs
• Unit Profile: 18-bed CTICU with an average daily census of approximately 16 patients
• Float Requirement: Float within scope to other ICU and PCU areas
• Charting: Epic
• Call: Not required

CTICU Registered Nurse Job Requirements

• At least 3 years of recent Cardiac ICU or Cardiothoracic ICU experience required
• At least 2 years of specialty experience required for submission; highly qualified candidates with 1.5 years may be considered based on Level I trauma or travel nursing experience
• Previous charge nurse experience required
• Current Registered Nurse license in Connecticut or eligibility to obtain one; pending license applications may be considered
• ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS certifications required
• CCRN certification preferred
• Proficiency with pulmonary artery catheter and Swan-Ganz monitoring required
• Epic charting experience required
• Travel nursing experience is not required
• Strong clinical judgment and the ability to care for complex, high-acuity cardiac patients
• Availability to meet the every-other-weekend requirement and support floating within the critical care scope

Cardiothoracic ICU Nurse Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive nursing care to critically ill adults following CABG, valve repair or replacement, aneurysm repair, cardiac or kidney transplant, VAD implantation, and other major cardiothoracic procedures
• Manage patients requiring mechanical circulatory support, including IABP, Impella, CentriMag, and VAD therapy
• Perform and interpret advanced hemodynamic monitoring, including pulmonary artery catheter and Swan-Ganz monitoring
• Titrate cardiac, vasoactive, sedative, insulin, and neuromuscular-blocking infusions according to patient condition and protocols
• Care for ventilated patients and manage BiPAP, CPAP, high-flow nasal cannula, suctioning, and fresh tracheostomies
• Monitor and manage arterial lines, central lines, PICC lines, epicardial pacing wires, chest tubes, and vascular sheaths
• Recognize and respond to dysrhythmias, acute stroke symptoms, renal failure, hemodynamic instability, and other critical changes
• Administer blood products, emergency medications, procedural sedation, and other therapies safely and accurately
• Assist with or provide care related to bronchoscopy, ECMO cannulation, cardiac catheterization, TAVR, and valve procedures
• Collaborate with physicians, advanced practice providers, respiratory therapy, pharmacy, radiology, rehabilitation, and other members of the interdisciplinary team
• Float to ICU and PCU areas as needed while maintaining safe, high-quality care within the nurse's competency and scope of practice
