Job Overview

We are seeking an experienced ICU Registered Nurse to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in critical care nursing, with the ability to manage complex patients in a fast-paced environment.

Unit Information

• Beds: 39 (including MICU, SICU, CICU, TICU, mixed unit)
• Patient Types: Complex ICU patients, including surgical, medical, cardiac, neuro, and trauma cases
• Diagnoses: ARDS, MI, CVA/TIA, COVID, post-cardiac catheterization, post-surgical recovery, multiple system trauma
• Patient Ratios: RN to patient ratios of 1:1, 1:2, or occasionally 1:3, based on acuity

Qualifications

• Minimum of 2 years of ICU experience (excluding travel experience); 1.5 years may be considered with significant RN experience outside of ICU.
• No first-time travelers accepted; a minimum of one prior travel assignment is required.
• Must live at least 100 miles away from any facility within the region.
• Completion of a nursing education program approved by a board of nursing; must hold a current Registered Nurse (RN) license.
• Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS, and TNCC.
• Experience with Epic electronic medical records is essential.

Skills and Responsibilities

• Experience managing complex ICU patients, including the use of IV medications, hemodynamic monitoring, ventilator management, and telemetry.
• Ability to provide care for patients with conditions such as post-operative CABG/TAVR (preferred) and manage heavy trauma cases.
• Critical thinking and strong assessment skills are essential.
• Comfortable working in a team-oriented, fast-paced environment.
• Experience with Impella, IABP, and CRRT is strongly preferred.
• Must be open to working a 48-hour workweek contract.

Support and Resources

• CNA support: 1-2 Nurse Aides per unit plus mobility float aide.
• On-site resources include round-the-clock respiratory therapy and intensivist physician support.
• Phlebotomy services available for peripheral blood draws; ICU CRNs will place midlines.

Orientation and Scheduling

• Orientation includes an 8-hour hospital orientation, 4 hours of iLEARN courses, and two 12-hour shifts of floor orientation.
• Requires holiday availability, with restrictions on time-off requests during peak periods, such as the Sturgis Bike Rally in August.
• Weekend rotations are expected, though not guaranteed.
