Description

American Traveler is hiring an RN for a Stepdown/ICU position requiring 2 years of PCU/stepdown/ICU experience and frequent floating across stepdown, ICU, and MedSurg units.

Details

• Stepdown role in a 21-bed unit that frequently floats to ICU and MedSurg units
• Night shift, 3x12 hours (19:00-7:00)
• Patient ratios: Stepdown 1:4-5, ICU 1:2, MedSurg 1:5-6
• Every-other-weekend (EOW) rotation required
• Weekly orientation held every Wednesday
• Manages non-titrating drips including Amiodarone, NTG, Cardizem, Lopressor, and Cardene
• Cares for vascular patients (fem-pop, CEA), NStemi, and post-cardiac cath with intervention patients
• Manages CIWA patients receiving IVP Ativan (no Precedex)
• Provides care for peritoneal dialysis and stable BiPAP patients
• Manages heated high-flow oxygen (<80%) and home ventilators (Trilogy)
• Performs wound care and nebulizer treatments
• Coordinates hemodialysis (HD) through the Dialysis Department
• Uses Meditech EMR

Requirements

• Active SC or Compact RN license required
• Current certifications: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS
• Minimum 2 years of PCU/stepdown/ICU experience required
• ICU experience required for stepdown-oriented travelers due to floating expectations
• Meditech charting experience preferred
• Skilled in IV therapy, central/peripheral/PICC line care, and blood product administration
• Skilled in BiPAP/CPAP management, chest tube care, high-flow nasal cannula, and tracheostomy care
• Experience with cardiac drip titration, dysrhythmia interpretation, and telemetry monitoring
• Experience with wound care/wound vac, isolation precautions, and PPE
• Community hospital experience preferred
• Comfortable with high patient-to-caregiver ratios and frequent floating

Additional Information

• Provides direct patient care across stepdown, ICU, and MedSurg units based on facility needs
• Floating is required in rotation with staff according to clinical experience and facility policy, with orientation provided to new units
• Scrubs required: royal blue and white
• Must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to qualify for travel assignment
• Holiday and weekend coverage expected in rotation with staff
• Previous employees must have been gone at least 1 year and left in good standing to be considered for return
• Minimal to no RTO approved, especially during the first weeks of the assignment
• Travel experience preferred but not required
