Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for an Intermediate Care/Neuro Stepdown Telemetry unit requiring at least 2 years of experience and prior travel experience.

Details

• Intermediate Care unit specializing in neurological and medical intermediate patients
• 24-bed unit with a 1:4 patient-to-nurse ratio
• 12-hour night shifts, 18:45-07:15, with 36 or 48 hour options available
• No on-call requirements
• Floating required to other intermediate or critical care areas such as PCTU or Cardiac Intermediate units
• Minimum of 3 weekend shifts required every six weeks
• Unit systems include Pyxis, EPIC, and SBAR

Requirements

• Active RN license (NC or Compact) required, pending license accepted at submission
• Certifications required: ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS; CCRN, TNCC, and CPI preferred
• Minimum 2 years of recent relevant RN experience required
• Neuro Stepdown, PCU/DOU/IMC/Stepdown, and Telemetry experience required
• EPIC charting experience required
• Skilled in cardiac monitoring including dysrhythmia interpretation and management
• Experienced in IV insulin protocols and insulin drip titration
• Skilled in feeding tube care and management
• Experienced with continuous bladder irrigation (CBI) and pre/post hemodialysis management
• Proficient in central line, peripheral line, and PICC line care and management
• Experienced in blood product administration and starting/maintaining IVs
• Skilled in titrating cardiac and vasoactive drips, including LEVO titration
• Experienced with heparin protocols, PCA, and thrombolytic agents
• Neurological/psychiatric experience required, including aneurysm repair, craniotomy, CVA, intracranial bleeds, lumbar drains, post-TPA care, pre/post neurosurgery, seizure disorders, spinal cord injury, substance withdrawal, and traumatic brain injury care
• Respiratory skills required including BiPAP/CPAP management, ventilator care, chest tube management, HFNC, ABG interpretation, and tracheostomy care
• Experience with surgical drain management required
• Knowledge of isolation precautions/PPE and wound care/wound vac required
• Previous travel experience required; unit will not accept first-time travelers
• Two professional references from a supervisor within the past 2 years required (pending accepted at submission)

Additional Information

• Provide intermediate-level nursing care to a mix of neurological and medical patients requiring close monitoring
• Work collaboratively with the care team, adhering to a strong teamwork approach and facility behavioral expectations
• Must strictly adhere to the unit's call-off policy
• Must pass EKG testing prior to start
• Unit orientation includes 32 hours total: an 8-hour computer class plus two shifts on the unit
• Scrubs not provided; navy blue and white combinations required
• Local candidates accepted at a lower rate within 50 miles of the facility
• RTO up to 7 days can be auto-approved if not falling on a holiday; no RTO allowed during first week of assignment
• Must work 2 of 3 major holidays
• Former Novant Health or New Hanover employees must wait 12 months before applying as a traveler and disclose prior employment details
• Travel pairs allowed if placed on different units and disclosed at submission
• Contract lengths from 16+ weeks up to a hard stop date of February 27, 2027 to support holiday coverage
