Description

American Traveler is hiring an RN for a Stepdown/Intermediate Care Unit position requiring 2+ years of experience and NIHSS certification for a night shift assignment.

Details

• Acute care Intermediate Care Unit (IMU) with 30 beds (14 private & 16 semi-private)
• Nurse-to-patient ratios typically 1:4 to 1:5, occasionally up to 1:6
• Uses EPIC and Sunrise EMR systems
• 12-hour night shifts, 36 hours per week, with weekend rotation (4 weekend night shifts per 4-week schedule)
• Self-scheduling available with 4 requested days off per month, provided unit needs are met
• Floating required into Tele or MedSurg units with ratios up to 1:6 or 1:7
• Cares for patients with chest pain, r/o MI, CHF, arrhythmias, post pacer, and pre/post cardiac catheterization
• Manages radial bands and groin checks post-procedure, and monitors patients on Tikosyn therapy
• Uses Nihon Kohden telemetry monitors and must be able to read and interpret own strips despite Tele Tech support
• Titrates drips including Amiodarone, Cardizem, Dopamine, Dobutamine, Labetolol, Nitro, Heparin, and occasionally Lasix
• Supported by 24/7 in-house Hospitalist, Intensivist, IV/PICC team, Respiratory Therapy, and Pharmacy

Requirements

• Active WV or Compact RN license required
• BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required
• Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
• BSN not required for this position
• Must be able to independently read and interpret telemetry strips
• Must be competent in titrating high-risk cardiac drips
• Unexpired driver's license copy required for consideration

Additional Information

• Charge nurses take a full patient assignment on both day and night shifts
• Unit supported by 2-3 CNAs with ratios of 1:10-12 and a Clinical Assistant
• Floor-specific orientation includes 4 hours with HR followed by 2 days with a preceptor on the unit
• Scrub requirement: navy blue top and bottom with navy scrub jackets, no hoodies
• Holiday coverage may be required but is typically minimal, as perm staff usually cover holidays
• Strict attendance policy allows no more than 2 occurrences (tardies/call-offs) per 13-week contract
• Candidates must reside within a 50-mile radius of the facility
• Local candidates are not accepted for this position
• Travelers who previously worked at any WVU Medicine location must have taken a 2-year break before reapplying
• Travelers may not work within the WVU system for longer than one cumulative year without a 2-year break
