Travel Registered Nurse – Intermediate Care Unit (IMC)

Location: Wausau, WI
Shift: Nights | 3x12s (7:00 PM–7:30 AM)
Contract: 13 Weeks
Guaranteed Hours: 36 Hours per Week

Join a high-acuity Intermediate Care Unit caring for complex medical and surgical patients requiring stepdown-level care. This assignment is ideal for experienced PCU/Stepdown nurses who excel in fast-paced environments and are comfortable managing ventilator and tracheostomy patients.

Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive nursing care for intermediate care patients with complex medical and surgical conditions.
  • Monitor telemetry, perform detailed assessments, administer medications, and coordinate multidisciplinary care.
  • Manage patients with ventilators, tracheostomies, insulin drips, chest tubes, and other advanced therapies.
  • Float to higher-acuity inpatient units within your scope of practice as needed.

Requirements

  • Active Wisconsin RN License
  • BLS (AHA or ARC)
  • ACLS (AHA or ARC)
  • Minimum 2 years of Stepdown, Intermediate Care, or PCU experience
  • Ventilator and tracheostomy experience required
  • At least one prior travel assignment required
  • ICU experience preferred
  • Level II Trauma experience preferred
  • Epic experience preferred

Assignment Highlights

  • 36-bed Intermediate Care Unit
  • Adult medical and surgical patient population
  • Common diagnoses include sepsis, trauma, GI bleed, stroke, TBI, spinal cord injury, alcohol detox, orthopedic trauma, and stable ventilator/tracheostomy patients
  • Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:4
  • Every other weekend and holiday
  • Any scrub color permitted
  • Eligible for up to 36 hours of low census during the contract
