Job Title: Procedural Assistant Profession: IR Tech Specialty: Interventional Special Procedures Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Day Hours per Shift: 7:00 am - 5:30 pm Experience: Minimum 3 years experience in Interventional Special Procedures, either in IR, cardiac, or vascular hybrid setting License: Required minimum license(s) and certifications upon hire Certifications: ARRT-CV - ARRT Cardio Vascular Intervention or ARRT-R - ARRT Radiography or ARRT-VI - ARRT Vascular Intervention Radiography or RCIS - Registered CVI Specialist BLS - Basic Life Support or ARC-BLS - American Red Cross Basic Life Support or BLS-I - Basic Life Support - Instructor ACLS - Preferred or ACLS-I - ACLS - Instructor Preferred Must-Have: Ability to function independently during procedures after appropriate orientation and competency on the unit. Competency in all aspects of interventional and vascular procedures, patient positioning, exposure factors, and radiation protection. Understanding of anatomy and pathology and how they affect the quality of a procedure. Effective communication skills in verbal and written English. Display a positive attitude. Description: Functions under the direction of the Chief Technologist and the Vascular Institute Manager. Assists in providing safe, age-appropriate care to the patient by performing all exams according to department procedures. Has the knowledge and ability to properly and safely obtain quality diagnostic studies. Responsible for performing a wide variety of technical procedures requiring independent judgment, ingenuity, and initiative in the utilization of equipment for diagnosis and/or treatment of diseases. Able to independently perform job functions. Sets up the equipment to provide imaging service and positions patients for procedures. Able to perform procedures in both interventional radiology, hybrid vascular, and neuro-interventional settings. Core Responsibilities and Essential Functions: Completes required competencies. Uses critical thinking skills. Works in conjunction with radiologists, vascular surgeons, and cardiologists. Prepares the patient for procedures. Demonstrates and understands sterile technique. Prepares necessary supplies and equipment for procedures. Enters appropriate charges for supplies and procedures. Must be flexible with hours to meet department needs. Able to work scheduled and on-call shifts. Understands existing lines of communication and authority. Handles communications properly. Introduces self to patients and/or guardians utilizing proper scripting. Transports patients as needed. Provides privacy and comfort for patients and customers. Assists with maintenance of departmental records, compliance with standards, and performance improvement. Completes necessary paperwork. Answers departmental phone calls using proper scripting. Maintains stock levels and checks expiration dates. Maintains current licenses and BLS certifications. Assists in training for other staff as appropriate. Works collaboratively with other staff to achieve the best possible outcomes. Performs any other duties as assigned by leadership. Quality and Patient Safety: Verifies patient identity using two patient identifiers, such as armband and date of birth. Confirms written orders and consent, seeking clarification if unclear. Uses and understands pre-procedural verification and time-out forms. Complies with site and side marking when indicated. Patient Education: Responsible for educating patients, families, and support systems. Provides post-procedural home care instructions as needed. Performs other duties as assigned. Complies with all policies, standards of work, and codes of conduct.
