Job Title: Procedural Assistant Profession: Interventional Radiology Technologist Specialty: Vascular Institute Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Day Hours per Shift: 10 hours Experience: Minimum 3 years in Interventional Special Procedures in either IR, cardiac, or vascular hybrid settings License: Required minimum license(s) pending hire include ARRT or RCIS Certifications: Basic Life Support; Advanced Cardiac Life Support preferred Must-Have: - Competency in all aspects of interventional procedures, patient positioning, exposure factors, and radiation protection - Understanding of anatomy and pathology impacting the quality of procedures - Ability to function independently during procedures Description: Functions under the direction of the Chief Technologist and Vascular Institute Manager. Assists in providing safe, age-appropriate care to patients by performing all exams according to department procedures. Responsible for obtaining quality diagnostic studies. Performs a wide variety of technical procedures requiring independent judgment, ingenuity, and initiative. Sets up equipment for imaging services and positions patients for procedures. Capable of performing procedures in various settings including interventional radiology and vascular hybrid. Clinical Skills: Completes necessary competencies. Uses critical thinking skills. Works in conjunction with radiologists, vascular surgeons, and cardiologists. Prepares the patient for procedures and demonstrates an understanding of sterile technique. Prepares necessary supplies and equipment, and enters appropriate charges. Job Responsibilities: Must be flexible to meet departmental needs. Available for scheduled and on-call shifts. Maintains effective communication and introduces themselves to patients correctly. Transports patients as needed, ensuring their privacy and comfort. Assists in maintaining departmental records and compliance with standards and regulations. Completes required paperwork and maintains stock levels. Maintains current licenses and certifications. Participates in training for other staff as needed. Works collaboratively with team members for optimal patient outcomes. Performs additional duties as assigned by leadership. Quality and Patient Safety: Verifies patient identification using two identifiers. Checks patient charts for accuracy. Verifies written orders and consent, seeking clarification when needed. Understands and complies with procedural verification processes. Patient Education: Responsible for educating patients and their families about procedures. Provides post-procedural home care instructions as necessary. Complies with organizational policies and standards of conduct. Performs other related duties as assigned.
