General Information- Beds: 3 procedural labs, 2 holding bays for diagnostic imaging, bedside procedures
- Will you accept a traveler with 1 year experience: No
- RN: 3 years, 2 years of IR experience preferred
- Tech: 2 years scrub experience, 2 years procedural experience (Cath Lab or IR )
- Will you accept a first-time traveler: Yes, if 5 years IR experience
Patient Types:- Outpatient and inpatient radiology cases, diagnostic imaging, CT and MRI support
- All IR case types – bedside procedures, drain placement and removal, PICC/CVL/Port placement, arteriogram, taps, biopsies (no breast), PV cases (strong background), neuro angiogram, embolization, grafts/fistulas; do no typically do CT angiograms, normally US guided or fluoro
- Trauma cases are majority of call
- No peds
- 10-20 procedures/day
- Typically 1 RN 2 Tech s/room, but could be 2 RN 1 Tech /room
Patient Ratios: Required Certifications:- RN: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS
- Tech: ARRT or RTR, IEMA, BLS; ACLS preferred
Skills required- RN: Conscious/moderate sedation, ICU or ER background for trauma patients, cardiac rhythm interpretation, experience in procedural area and with bedside procedures, good circulating skills; occasionally RN will have to recover (rare)
- If on call, will be only nurse. Must be ok with that.
- Top skills needed: Strong in trauma, IR independence, Taps, PV, ports
- Able to prioritize in a fast paced, safety-oriented unit that cares for pre/post cardiac procedure patients (Cath/ IR ) including admission/recovery/discharge
- Tech : Ability to use cardiac wires and catheters, scrub/sterile tech nique, bedside procedures with nurse or MD, transport with RN; portable C-arm experience preferred
Education required: Support on the Unit:- Charge nurse: Will be involved with cases
- MD and PA on unit
- Call team will always have organic members
- Code and RRT teams
- RT: 24/7
- Hospitalist: 24/7
Tech nology/Equipment:- EMR: EPIC – experience preferred
- Cupid
- IV pumps: Alaris
- Medication dispensing: Pyxis
- Portable C-arm Phillips
- Angiojet, shockwave, penumbra is some of the equipment used
Floating: If yes, where:- CT if going with their patient
Orientation: (facility and unit)
- 1 Week
- Four 10-hour shifts of training
- EPIC training; must have EPIC training before touching patients
Scheduling:- Weekend rotation: Call only
- On call: Yes, total of 7-10 shifts of call per month
- 5 days every 3 weeks, 1730-0700
- Monday-Friday is weekday
- Can work consecutive call shifts and days, even if called in during the night, but can get a break between shifts to rest. Notify Charge RN!
- 45 minute response time
- No sleep room available, but can find a place if called in
- Holiday Expectations: Call only, 1 holiday per contract
- Approval of time off: To go through manager
- Shift times: Four 10-hour shifts, 0700-1730
