Job Description:
The Interventional Radiology RN provides specialized nursing care for patients undergoing diagnostic and therapeutic radiology procedures. This role involves pre-procedure preparation, intra-procedure monitoring, and post-procedure recovery while ensuring patient safety and comfort.
Key Responsibilities:
Assess, prepare, and educate patients before interventional radiology procedures.
Assist physicians during procedures such as angiograms, biopsies, drain placements, stent insertions, and embolizations.
Monitor vital signs, cardiac rhythms, and patient status throughout the procedure.
Administer moderate sedation, IV fluids, and medications as prescribed.
Provide post-procedure recovery care, including monitoring for complications and ensuring safe discharge or transfer.
Maintain sterile field and assist with instrument/equipment setup.
Collaborate with physicians, radiology technologists, and other interdisciplinary team members.
Document all aspects of care accurately in EMR.
Ensure compliance with hospital safety, infection control, and radiology protocols.
Qualifications:
Active RN license (state-specific, unrestricted).
BLS and ACLS required; PALS preferred (facility-dependent).
Minimum 1–2 years of critical care, PACU, or procedural nursing experience preferred.
Strong knowledge of sedation protocols, hemodynamic monitoring, and emergency response.
