Labor and Delivery Registered Nurse (RN)

Position Overview

This is a travel-based position for a Labor and Delivery Registered Nurse (RN) in a hospital setting. The successful candidate will work on a unit that encompasses both Labor and Delivery (L&D) and Postpartum (PP) care.

Shift Details

The position includes a night shift schedule with a total of 36 guaranteed hours per week. The shifts are 12 hours long, typically from 7 PM to 7:30 AM.

Unit Information

• Number of L&D Beds: 7
• Number of Triage Beds: 4, with 2 overflow beds
• Postpartum Beds: 27, including a 5-bed nursery
• Average Births: 3 per day, totaling approximately 1545 per year

Certifications Required

• ACLS
• BLS
• NRP
• Fetal Monitoring (AWOHNN - intermediate or advanced)
• Stable certification is preferred

Responsibilities

The Labor and Delivery RN will adhere to AWOHNN guidelines regarding patient ratios and provide high-quality care to patients in a variety of scenarios, including high-risk deliveries and those requiring transfer due to complications. The role requires the nurse to float between Labor and Delivery and Postpartum units as necessary, with specific duties including:

• Circulating in C-sections (experience in scrubbing is not mandatory)
• Assisting with deliveries and providing postpartum care
• Collaborating with charge nurses and resource nurses for effective unit management
• Supporting intake processes and stocking supplies

Patient Care and Environment

Candidates will primarily care for patients with high-risk deliveries and a diverse range of needs, including potential substance abuse and language barriers. The unit manages a variety of patient conditions and facilitates necessary transfers to specialized facilities as needed.

Requirements

• Minimum of 3 years of nursing experience in Labor and Delivery
• At least one prior travel contract experience is preferred

Work Schedule and Expectations

The position requires 4 weekend shifts within a 4-week schedule and participation in holiday coverage along with permanent staff. It is preferred that travelers are open to taking call shifts, but this is optional.

Additional Information

• Floating between units is an essential aspect of this role; L&D nurses must have postpartum experience, while PP nurses do not necessarily require L&D experience.
• 3 shifts of floor-specific orientation will be provided.
• Available resources include a 24/7 RT and pharmacy service, with OB/Neonatologist on call 24/7.
