Job Description

The Maternity Unit is a family-centered, multidisciplinary care area focused on providing comprehensive, compassionate, and evidence-based care to mothers, newborns, and families throughout the childbirth experience. This unit emphasizes high-quality antepartum, intrapartum, postpartum, and newborn care while prioritizing patient safety, education, and positive birth experiences. A collaborative approach among nurses, physicians, advanced practice providers, and support staff ensures the delivery of exceptional care that meets the physical, emotional, and educational needs of every family.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide evidence-based care throughout the childbirth experience, including antepartum, intrapartum, postpartum, and newborn care.
• Support patient safety and education initiatives within the unit.
• Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to enhance patient outcomes.
• Conduct antepartum monitoring and postpartum care for mothers and babies.
• Assist with newborn care and support families during their transition postpartum.

Position Requirements

• Must float to Labor & Delivery (L&D) and Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU).
• At least 1-2 weekends per month availability.
• No holiday shifts required.
• Nurse to patient ratio is 1:3, with potential variations.
• Unit comprises a total of 32 beds.
• Experience working with diverse urban populations including children, adults, and older adults from varying cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds.
• Minimum of 1 year of nursing experience required.
• Specific skills in postpartum care, baby care, and antepartum care including monitoring are essential.
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification and Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification required.
• Fetal monitoring experience is essential; certification is not required.
