Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Mother Baby/L&D position requiring 2 years of LDRP experience, NRP certification, and a WA or compact RN license.

Details

  • Acute care Birthing Center/Mother Baby - L&D unit with 13 L&D beds, 2 OR suites for C-sections, 2 triage beds, and 14 postpartum beds
  • High volume unit averaging 170-190 births per month
  • Follows AWHONN staffing ratios of 1:2 for L&D and 1:3-4 for mother-baby couplets
  • Patient population includes 32 weeks gestation and above, high risk, preeclampsia, diabetic, psych/social issues, and substance use cases
  • RNs titrate drips including Magnesium, Pitocin, and Insulin
  • Uses EPIC EMR and Centricity-perinatal for fetal monitoring
  • 12-hour day shifts with every other weekend requirement (Sat and Sun)
  • Holiday rotation required alongside permanent staff
  • Standby requirement with a 45-minute response time when placed on call
  • No floating outside the department; must be able to work in both mother baby and postpartum, transition babies, and attend low-risk deliveries
  • Free-standing charge nurse on both shifts, dedicated surgical tech 24/7, and clerical patient care assistant on each shift
  • 24/7 in-house OB/GYN hospitalist, NNP coverage in the nursery, and OB anesthesia provider with an on-unit call room
  • Respiratory therapy equipment available, typically with a therapist assigned to family birth
  • Tele/monitor tech coverage for PACU patients after C-section
  • Block scheduling available upon request in contract

Requirements

  • Active WA or compact RN license required, no pending licenses accepted
  • BLS and NRP certifications required; intermediate or advanced FHM certification preferred
  • Minimum 2 years of L&D/LDRP experience required
  • Must be comfortable attending deliveries and circulating in C-sections independently
  • Must be comfortable assisting with catching and transitioning newborns
  • Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, including dates of employment and rehire eligibility
  • Copy of driver's license required for consideration

Additional Information

  • Provide comprehensive care to mother-baby couplets and L&D patients, including drip titration and assisting with deliveries and C-sections
  • Supportive unit manager who provides regular feedback and expects openness and adaptability to unit workflows and policies
  • Scrubs and locker provided
  • Unit-specific orientation includes an 8-hour compliance day with a unit-based educator, an 8-hour EPIC class, and 2-3 shifts of 12-hour unit specific orientation
  • First-time travelers will not be considered for this position
  • Candidates may not have been directly employed by any CommonSpirit-affiliated facility, including CHI and Dignity, within the past year
