Labor, Delivery, Recovery & Postpartum (LDRP) RN

Contract Highlights

  • Unit: LDRP (Labor, Delivery, Recovery & Postpartum)
  • First-time travelers accepted
  • 1 year of experience may be accepted (per posting), though the facility description also notes a preference for 3 years of L&D experience—clinical review will determine eligibility.
  • No call required

Unit Information

  • 14 LDRP rooms (mother and baby remain in the same room)
  • 2 C-Section OR suites
  • 4 Triage beds
  • Approximately 90 deliveries/month (1,200/year)

Patient Ratios (AWHONN Standards)

  • Labor: 1:1
  • Cervical ripening: May pair 2 patients
  • Postpartum: 1:3 couplets
  • Triage: 1:3 (Resource RN assists if volume increases)

Required Certifications

  • BLS
  • ACLS
  • NRP
  • STABLE

Required Experience & Skills

  • Labor & Delivery experience
  • Mother-Baby/Postpartum care
  • Attend deliveries and perform the first hour of newborn care
  • OB triage
  • Circulate Cesarean Sections
  • Postpartum couplet care
  • Magnesium sulfate management
  • Pitocin protocol
  • Insulin drip experience (preferred/occasional)
  • Charge Nurse experience preferred

Common Patient Population

  • 32+ weeks gestation
  • Hypertension/Magnesium therapy
  • VBACs/TOLACs
  • Gestational diabetes
  • Antepartum patients
  • High percentage of community midwife transfers requiring medical intervention
  • Does not manage placenta previa or placenta accreta

Staffing & Support

  • Charge RN (no patient assignment)
  • Resource RN
  • Dedicated Triage RN
  • OB Hospitalist available 24/7
  • Neonatal Nurse Practitioner 24/7
  • Anesthesia 24/7
  • CST and CNA support (staffing dependent)

EMR & Equipment

  • Epic
  • Centricity Electronic Fetal Monitoring (EFM)

Schedule

  • 12-hour shifts (7:00–7:00)
  • Initial schedule fills staffing gaps
  • Future schedules consider traveler preferences when possible
  • Block scheduling not guaranteed
  • Travelers cannot work 6 consecutive shifts
