Labor and Delivery Registered Nurse (RN)

Job Description

We are seeking a skilled Labor and Delivery Registered Nurse (RN) to join our dedicated team in the Family Birthing Center. The successful candidate will provide comprehensive care to patients throughout the labor, delivery, and postpartum processes. This high-risk unit emphasizes couplet care, requiring the ability to manage all aspects of patient care from start to finish.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide nursing care for patients in labor and during delivery.
• Circumvent c-sections and provide appropriate support during various procedures.
• Maintain effective communication with patients, families, and healthcare team members.
• Perform assessments and monitor fetal heart patterns using advanced fetal monitoring techniques.
• Participate in education and training for both patients and staff.
• Collaborate with the healthcare team to ensure high-quality patient care.
• Titrate drips as required, specifically Pitocin.

Unit Information

The Family Birthing Center includes:

• Number of Labor and Delivery Beds: 10
• Operating Room Suites for C-Sections: 2
• Triage Beds: 6 (3 OB-ED and 3 antepartum testing)
• Postpartum Beds: 12
• Monthly Births: Approximately 140-165

Qualifications

• Minimum of 2 years of experience in Labor and Delivery nursing.
• Required certifications include:
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
  • BLS (Basic Life Support)
  • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
  • AWHONN-Advanced certification preferred.
• Must be comfortable floating to other areas such as Mother/Baby and be capable of circulating c-sections.
• All nurses are required to read and interpret EKG strips for patients in PACU.

Work Schedule

The position involves:

• 12-hour shifts, starting at 6:45 AM.
• Every other weekend commitment.
• Rotation to cover major holidays, with a possibility of time off considered but not guaranteed.

Additional Information

All staff are provided with scrubs. A dedicated OB hospitalist is available 24/7, alongside anesthesia support and an on-call neonatologist. The environment encourages a supportive approach to patient care, fostering teamwork and effective collaboration across disciplines.
