Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a high-acuity Labor & Delivery unit requiring couplet care, C-section circulating skills, and CA RN licensure.

Details

• Work in the Family Birthing Center, covering L&D, Postpartum, and OB (LDRP) in an acute care hospital setting
• 10 L&D beds, 2 OR suites for C-sections, 3 OB-ED/antepartum triage beds, and 12 postpartum beds
• Unit averages 140-165 births per month
• Patient ratios follow AWHONN guidelines: 1:3-4 couplets, 1:1-2 L&D, 1:1-3 antepartum
• Common diagnoses include preterm labor, bleeding, inductions, cesarean sections, and hypertension
• Must be able to circulate C-sections and manage couplet care from start to finish
• Titration of drips required, including Pitocin
• Must be able to read and interpret EKG strips on PACU patients
• Uses Cerner EMR and GE Corometrics/Fetalink EFM monitoring system
• OB hospitalist and anesthesia in house 24/7; neonatologist on call 24/7 with daily rounds
• 12-hour day shifts beginning at 6:45am with bedside report
• Schedule includes every other weekend and holiday rotation with staff
• On-call response time of 30 minutes if placed on call
• Floating required to other Sacramento facilities within the health system; in-house floating not required
• Scrubs provided

Requirements

• Active CA RN license (Standard or Compact) required
• Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
• BLS, ACLS, and NRP certifications required
• AWHONN-Advanced certification required; STABLE certification preferred
• Must be comfortable performing all aspects of LDRP nursing care
• Must be able to circulate C-sections
• Ability to read and interpret EKG strips
• Two supervisor references required at submission: one from within the last 12 months worked and one from within the last 3 years worked
• Copy of driver's license required to validate legal name

Additional Information

• Provide comprehensive nursing care across L&D, postpartum, and OB in a high-risk couplet care unit
• Charge nurse/house supervisor generally does not take patients but provides break relief
• OB surgical techs support the unit
• NRP/baby catcher role may be assigned for the entire shift, filled by either L&D or NICU staff depending on availability
• Travelers will be scheduled to work 2 of the 3 major holidays (Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year's), though holiday time off requests will be considered
• Candidates may not have been directly employed (FT, PT, or PRN) by any CommonSpirit-affiliated facility, including CHI or Dignity, within the past year; PRN employment through outside staffing firms is acceptable
