Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Labor & Delivery position requiring a minimum of 2-3 years of high-acuity L&D experience, with night shift availability and strong obstetrical skills.

Details

  • Labor & Delivery unit within a hospital setting, with additional coverage in antepartum, LDRP, and mother/baby areas
  • Patient ratio of 1:2 couplets
  • Night shift schedule, 3x12-hour shifts (19:00–07:30)
  • Minimum of 3 weekend shifts per month required (Saturday and Sunday only)
  • No on-call requirements
  • May float occasionally to the postpartum unit within scope of practice
  • 13-week contract

Requirements

  • Active AZ RN license or compact RN license currently in hand
  • Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, NRP, and AWHONN Intermediate Fetal Monitoring
  • Minimum 3 years of high-acuity L&D experience required; 2 years may be considered if experience is from a teaching or high-risk facility
  • Proficiency in sterile speculum and vaginal exams, including assessment of effacement, dilation, station, and presentation
  • Experience with NST (Non-Stress Tests), reflex checks, edema assessment, and clonus evaluation
  • Skilled in external and internal fetal monitoring (EFM), including IUPC placement and calibration
  • Ability to recognize and manage abnormal fetal heart rate patterns
  • Experience administering blood and blood products, drawing venous blood, starting and maintaining peripheral IVs, and managing infusion pumps and IV drips
  • Proficiency in amnioinfusion, assisting with high-risk and vaginal deliveries, circulating for C-sections, and recovering C-section patients
  • Experience with forceps/vacuum extraction, hemorrhage/shock management, and neonatal care in the delivery room
  • Skilled in newborn assessment, cord care, infant identification, newborn hypoglycemia management, and discharge teaching to parents
  • Experience with epidural and general anesthesia, pain assessment, and postpartum care for vaginal delivery, cesarean section, couplet care, multiple births, postpartum hemorrhage, and pregnancy-induced hypertension
  • Familiarity with isolation precautions, PPE, and vaccine administration
  • Candidates must reside at least 75 miles from the facility to be eligible

Additional Information

  • Preferred certifications include AWHONN Advanced Fetal Monitoring, C-EFM, and RNC-OB
  • Preferred experience includes high-risk antepartum care, Level III L&D, and facilities with more than 300 births per month
  • Additional preferred skills include obstetric triage, spiral electrode placement, assisting with amniocentesis, cervical cerclage, D&C, tubal ligation, newborn transition, phototherapy, neonatal abstinence syndrome management, metabolic screening, car seat education, PCA (IV) use, phototherapy, and circumcision care and education
  • First-time travelers will be considered with a minimum of 5 years of L&D experience
  • RTO blackout dates apply for the following periods: 5/22–5/25, 7/3–7/6, and 9/4–9/7
  • Local candidates are not accepted; candidates must reside at least 75 miles from the facility
