Description
American Traveler is hiring a Registered Nurse for a Labor & Delivery position requiring 2 years of L&D experience, ACLS, AWHONN Intermediate, and NRP certifications, and a VA or compact RN license.
Details
- Work on a combined unit servicing L&D (vaginal and cesarean), post-partum, antepartum, and Level II nursery
- Care for Level 2 inpatient obstetrical and Level 2 NICU neonatal patients
- Manage GYN/medical overflow, antepartum, observational triage, and mother-baby couplet care patients, including border babies
- Perform obstetrical procedures such as versions, IOL, cervical ripening, IUFD care and bereavement support, and OR cesarean sections
- Staffing ratios vary by acuity: 1:1 for complications or active labor, 1:3 for stable antepartum, 1:1-2 for unstable/ill antepartum, 1:3-4 for couplet care, 2:1 for delivery, and 1:2-3 for Level 2 NICU depending on condition
- Night shift schedule: 3x12-hour shifts, 7:00 PM to 7:00 AM
- On-call requirement of 36 hours within a 6-week block
- If floated outside of specialty, will assist as helping hands using general nursing skills to support other nurses
Requirements
- Active RN license (VA or Compact) currently in hand
- Current certifications: ACLS, AWHONN Intermediate, BLS, and NRP
- Minimum 2 years of L&D experience required
- Charting system experience required (any system)
- Teaching hospital and community hospital experience preferred
- Previous charge nurse experience preferred
- Skills in Pitocin (oxytocin) administration, IV therapy/phlebotomy, starting and maintaining IVs, antepartum care and procedures, and triage of obstetrical patients
- Experience with LDRP, labor and delivery management, and C-section recovery
- bCPAP skills preferred
Additional Information
- Provide comprehensive nursing care across labor, delivery, postpartum, antepartum, and Level II nursery patient populations
- Fit testing is required, and candidates must shave for the fit test unless a provider-approved exemption letter is obtained in advance from Employee Health Services
- Facility maintains a zero-tolerance policy for THC, and medical marijuana cards are not accepted
- A drug screen is required during compliance and again on day one onsite
- RTO policy: if one holiday falls during the assignment expect to work it, if two holidays expect to work one, and if three holidays expect to work two
- General RN orientation occurs every other Monday
- Candidates who previously worked in a permanent role for this health system within the past 24 months will not be considered
- Local candidates residing within 50 miles of the facility are not accepted
- First-time travelers may be considered only if they have 2 years of L&D experience
