Description

American Traveler is hiring a night shift RN for a fast-paced, high-risk Labor and Delivery unit requiring 2+ years of experience in a high-volume (>300 births/month) setting.

Details

  • Work in a high-risk Labor and Delivery unit within a Birthing Care Unit setting
  • Care for obstetrical patients 16 weeks and greater for intrapartum, high-risk antepartum, and postpartum care, as well as select high-risk patients under 16 weeks
  • Unit includes an obstetrical triage area for pre-admission screening and outpatient procedures such as antenatal fetal surveillance, IV hydration, and medication administration
  • Scheduled and unscheduled Cesarean births and rescue cervical cerclage procedures performed
  • Patient ratio of 2:1 with an average of 20 births per 24 hours, 30-40 admits, 40 visits/day, and 20 rooms
  • Double labor assignments are a daily occurrence
  • Night shift schedule: 3x12 hour shifts, 18:45-07:15
  • Every other weekend required, minimum of 6 weekend shifts per 6-week schedule
  • Floating required as needed within the high-risk maternity unit
  • No call requirements
  • Uses Epic, Pyxis, and SBAR charting systems
  • Contract lengths of 13-26 weeks accepted

Requirements

  • Active RN license (NC or Compact) required, pending license acceptable at submission
  • Current certifications: BLS, NRP, and AWHONN Intermediate required, AWHONN Advanced and C-EFM preferred in lieu of AWHONN
  • Minimum 2 years of RN experience required, 3 years preferred
  • Experience in a high-volume unit with over 300 births per month required
  • Circulate for C-section experience strongly preferred
  • Competency in sterile vaginal exams and immediate newborn care required
  • Epic charting experience required
  • First-time travelers considered, but must have experience in a large, high-volume similar setting
  • Skills required: labor and delivery management, cardiac monitoring, interpretation of dysrhythmias, infant/neonatal arrest response, isolation precautions/PPE, antepartum care and procedures, oxytocin challenge tests, triage of obstetrical patients, pain assessment and management, and IV therapy/phlebotomy

Additional Information

  • Unit is described as difficult and fast-paced with higher acuity than typically expected
  • 48-hour per week contracts may not be realistic given the pace of the unit
  • Unit orientation is 24 hours in duration
  • Blue scrubs are provided
  • Must work 2 of the 3 major holidays
  • RTO of 7 days or less can be auto-approved as long as it does not fall on a holiday, additional RTO requires facility approval
  • No RTO allowed during the first week of the assignment due to orientation
  • No additional RTO allowed after booking, and it cannot be worked out onsite
  • Travel pairs are allowed if placed on different units and disclosed at submission
  • Local candidates within 50 miles are accepted at a lower rate
  • Former Novant Health or New Hanover PERM/PRN/EP employees must wait 12 months before applying and require facility approval
  • Current travel or per diem clinicians at the facility must choose between travel or per diem status, as both are not eligible simultaneously
