Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced Labor & Delivery RN for a full-scope LDRP unit position requiring MO or compact RN license and 3 years of L&D experience.

Details

  • Acute care hospital setting with a 74-bed facility
  • LDRP unit providing labor, delivery, recovery, and postpartum care
  • Patient ratios of 1:1 to 1:3
  • Day shift schedule, 3x12 hours (6:45 AM to 7:15 PM)
  • Weekend rotation of 4-6 weekend shifts (Sat/Sun) plus 2 Fridays per 6-week schedule
  • On-call requirement of 2 mandatory shifts per 6-week schedule period
  • Charge RN assignments as needed per unit
  • Expected to float within LDRP scope including triage, C-section circulating, antepartum, intrapartum, and postpartum care
  • Full couplet care required
  • Regular floating between departments, units, and facilities may be required
  • Facility performs fewer than 100 births per month
  • Epic charting system required
  • Unit handles vaginal births, C-sections, antenatal testing (NSTs, BPP by radiology), post-op GYN care, external cephalic version, and antepartum patients

Requirements

  • Active RN license, MO or compact required; KS license also required due to floating between facilities
  • Current certifications: BLS, FHM (preferred), NRP; AWHONN Advanced and AWHONN Intermediate preferred
  • Minimum 3 years of L&D experience required, with recent in-specialty experience within the past 12 months and no employment gaps greater than 90 days
  • Community hospital experience preferred
  • Epic EMR experience required
  • Skilled in IV therapy/phlebotomy including blood administration, venous blood draws, IV starts, and infusion pump use
  • Proficient in labor and delivery management including amnioinfusion, vaginal delivery assistance, C-section circulating, forceps/vacuum extraction, hemorrhage/shock management, and C-section recovery
  • Experience with medication administration including antihypertensives, Magnesium Sulfate, Pitocin, prostaglandins, and Terbutaline
  • Skilled in neonatal care including cord sample collection and infant ID/security banding
  • Experienced in newborn care including circumcision assistance, car seat education, cord care, discharge teaching, metabolic screening, and thermoregulation
  • Proficient in antepartum care including NSTs, reflex checks, sterile vaginal exams, and external fetal monitoring
  • Skilled in postpartum care including breastfeeding support, foley catheter management, fundus/lochia/perineum care, and wound care
  • Experience managing postpartum complications including bladder distension, cesarean section, couplet care, multiple births, hemorrhage, and pregnancy-induced hypertension
  • Experience with surgical procedures including D&C and tubal ligation
  • Skilled in pain management including epidural and general anesthesia, opioids, and IV PCA use
  • Proficient in fetal monitoring including recognition of abnormal fetal heart rate patterns, spiral electrode placement, and IUPC placement and calibration
  • Experience with post-operative gynecology care including hysterectomy
  • Two professional references required, one from a supervisor and one from a charge RN, both from the past year

Additional Information

  • Provide comprehensive care across triage, labor, delivery, antepartum, intrapartum, and postpartum phases
  • Support high-risk and low-risk obstetrical patients within a community-level LDRP model
  • Navy scrubs provided by facility
  • Free parking available
  • Holiday coverage required for 1 major holiday (Thanksgiving or Christmas) and 1-2 minor holidays (New Year's Day, Memorial Day, July 4th, or Labor Day)
  • Block scheduling not accommodated
  • Maximum of 2 RTO requests permitted, with a 7-day cap
  • First-time travelers not accepted for this role due to experience requirements
  • Candidates must live at least 75 miles from the facility to be considered; local candidates within this radius are not accepted
  • Travel partners not accepted
  • Previous BJC or Saint Luke's permanent employees must wait 1 year before returning as a traveler; prior travelers must have 18 months tenure with a 3-month break in service
