General Information

We are seeking a skilled Labor and Delivery Nurse to join our team in a facility that features:

• 10 Labor & Delivery beds
• 4 OB Emergency Department Triage beds
• 4 Antepartum rooms

We welcome both experienced travelers and first-time travelers to apply, provided they meet the required qualifications.

Patient Types

The Labor and Delivery unit cares for a diverse range of pregnant patients, including:

• High-risk patients due to complications
• Low-intervention laboring patients
• Antepartum, OB triage/ED, postpartum, and infants

Patient Ratios

• Antepartum: 1:3
• Inactive Labor: 1:2
• Active Labor: 1:1
• Postpartum/Couplet care: 1:3 couplets

Required Licenses and Certifications

• Required: BLS, NRP
• Preferred: ACLS, certification in inpatient obstetrics, electronic fetal monitoring, or inpatient antepartum

Skills Required

Candidates should possess the following skills:

• EPIC charting experience
• Competency to manage high acuity labor patients, including conditions such as preeclampsia and preterm labor
• IV starts, cervical checks, phlebotomy, management of magnesium sulfate, blood administration, and insulin
• Circulate C-sections and provide care during C-section recovery
• Experience in caring for couplets and comfort in caring for normal newborn nursery patients (Level I care)
• Preference for candidates comfortable with lower acuity NICU patients (Level II care)

Education Requirements

Completion of a nursing education program approved by a board of nursing and possession of a Registered Nurse (RN) license in South Dakota.

Support on the Unit

The unit is supported by:

• Unit Secretary
• Scrub Tech dedicated to assisting L&D RNs
• Charge Nurse
• VAT team available as needed
• Respiratory Therapy services available 24/7
• OB Physician team
• Anesthesia/CRNA team

Charting System

Our charting system utilizes EPIC.

Floating Requirements

Candidates will be required to work in Postpartum/Couplet care throughout the contract and should ideally have Level 2 nursery baby experience.

Orientation

New hires will undergo an orientation process consisting of:

• NEO
• 4 days with a preceptor (3 days in L&D and 1 day in Postpartum)

Scheduling

We offer:

• 12-hour shifts, either 0630 or 1830, with variable shifts
• Must be comfortable working both nights and days throughout the contract
• Weekend rotation of every other weekend
• Holiday shifts as needed
• Time off requires managerial approval
